It’s been a long time coming….

.

It was a long and nearly snowless winter.

Spring was late and with no snow to melt, extremely dry.

One lousy April shower and May took its sweet time showing us some flowers. Heck, we even had frost last week.

But finally….

.

.

The lilacs are popping.

.

.

Which means vases of that heavenly scent are scattered throughout the house.

.

.

And while a little scraggly…

.

.

The expensive dark cherry tree we planted last year is hanging on.

.

.

The blooms are gorgeous.

.

.

So my fingers are crossed it grows big and strong.

.

.

In front of the barn?

.

.

The choke cherry tree is in blossom. The fruit is inedible and sometimes poisonous, but the delicate spring blooms are sweet.

    1. Our lilacs have not arrived yet. At least not the ones in the front yard. But a Charlie Brown lilac tree, barely surviving, is blooming in the back yard. It’s brother gave up the ghost last year, poor thing.

      1. When we moved here there was a large white and a large dark purple. Naturally my favorite is the light purple. A friend gave me a cutting off her bush and ten years later it stands maybe 10 inches high.
I’ll be dead before it blooms.
        🤣

      2. Another Charlie Brown lilac tree. It took ours about 11 years before it bloomed the first time. Now it blooms earlier than anything else. It has light purple, almost pink flowers. I don’t know how long it will stay in bloom. I have not seen any bees this Spring. This is a very bad sign!

      3. I have not seen one bee this year. No butterflies either. But then, we have only had two “very short” rain showers since mid-April when the last snow melted. Thirty minutes of rain in 1-1/2 months just doesn’t bode well. The bees may be staying in their hives because of the level of smoke in the air, but they risk starving to death by this time. We coild be in the middle of an ecological disaster up here. I sure hope not!

  1. We have had really good growing conditions around here, not even any concern about the apple and peach crops. It’s the perfect time for my lawn mower to take a trip to the shop. Your trees are beautiful.
