Random rambling…

.

Our Coopers Hawk has been visiting the backyard again. He lands on the deck railing, in the apple trees, on the telephone pole and on his very favorite spot…

The bird feeding station.

It’s a shame he dislikes the paparazzi and flies away as soon as he spots me… but I did manage this rather nice photo.

.

.

They’re so beautiful.

❤️

The following is a notice from a Maine church… and while I’m not a religious person, I have to admit God Invented Chocolate is a great advertising gimmick.

.

.

Clever marketing, that.

.

.

Who makes these things?

When I’m craving sweets… I can guarantee you the last thing I’m reaching for is cabbage.

🥴

.

.

There.

That’s better…

.

I’m rooting for the hawk.

.

Our Cooper’s hawk was back on the deck railing yesterday and this time he was in full hunting mode.

.

.

The dreaded red squirrel pair were spotted and my fingers were crossed.

.

.

If anyone can rid me of that menace, it’s the hawk.

.

.

On high alert, scouting the bushes where they were hiding.

.

.

The hawk sat there, patiently waiting for movement.

.

.

And then, a strike!

.

.

That sadly came up empty.

Hawk – 0.

Red squirrel demons – 1.

🥺

.

Well, hello there…

.

I spied someone on the deck railing recently, and as you can see… the royal feline was clueless.

.

.

The someone was a juvenile Coopers Hawk.

.

.

There’s good hunting under our bird feeders and this beauty was seriously interested.

.

.

After ten minutes of me taking pictures and saying hey, there’s a big bird outside…

.

.

His Lordship caught on.

.

.

Hullo gawgeous!

.

.

Raptors are fascinating creatures.

.

.

And seeing one this close is a special experience.

❤️

.

Can you see him?

.

No, it hasn’t snowed again… but I realized I forgot to post these photos after our last storm so bear with me.

Can you see him?

.

.

How about now?

.

.

That’s our resident Coopers Hawk sitting in the apple tree waiting for lunch to fly by.

.

.

The speed at which he snatched a dove out of the air astounded me … as I had my phone camera pointed right at him when it happened and still didn’t manage to catch the shot.

.

.

Here’s a blurry pic of him sitting on top of his lunch for a split second before he flew away to eat in peace.

.

Hello beautiful…

.

A Coopers Hawk has discovered our bird feeding station.

.

.

And while I haven’t seen the telltale sign of feathers on the ground…

.

.

It’s only a matter of time before some poor slow moving dove succumbs.

.

.

Birds of prey are glorious creatures and though witnessing an innocent death is never easy, it’s most definitely part of nature’s plan.

.

.

Not the most riveting video, but I’m sharing anyway.

.

.

As you can see we have no snow, but the wind was blowing and the hawk was puffed up against the cold.

.

.

This next photo?

.

.

Mid poop.

🤣

.

.

Hawk visitors.

.

.

Another reason I love living in the country.
