Out with the old…

.

One last cuddle on the old chair.

.

.

One last before picture…

.

.

After that, our farming neighbor and his field hands carried the old furniture out the door and over to his house.

.

.

It’s funny because we gave him the living room set we had before this one as well.

.

.

It was a tight fit…

And made my husband wish our back door was just a little wider.

.

.

One large scratch on the paint later…

.

.

Empty echoing space.

.

Woke up to this.

.

I walked outside this morning to fill the bird feeders and found this.

.

.

A pile of feathers.

.

.

Having a hawk who uses our backyard as his personal hunting ground, this isn’t unusual… but seeing this around noon was.

.

.

A young starling made numerous trips to the pile and gathered all the feathers in his (her?) beak.

.

.

I’m sure they make wonderfully soft nest liners…

And are the perfect example of Mother Nature’s ability to recycle.

Let’s talk about poop.

.

Because these days it’s everywhere.

.

.

I can’t honestly say I’ve ever thought about repurposing my poop.. but clearly I’m missing out on some opportunities .

.

.

This is… pardon the pun… a little hard to swallow.

.

.

No worries, I’m not going to run out and buy this book and share excerpts. Even I have limits.

.

.

Poop fuel. The ultimate in recycling. And with the cost of heating oil today? Not a bad idea.

.

.

Brilliant. The name and the idea. And if you smear the walls of your house with urine and feces? I can almost guarantee it’s going to deflect the Mormons and those pesky political survey takers who are always knocking on your door.

.

Recycling can hurt.

.

I try to be a good human. I reuse, I recycle and I dispose of things the legal, environmentally friendly way.

Maine is a beautiful state and we do all we can to keep it that way, including picking up trash on the side of the road. It disgusts me the amount of crap people will throw in the woods or a ditch. Tires, construction debris, carpet, bicycles, small appliances… it’s ridiculous.

So being the good global citizens we are, we recently picked up a small window unit air conditioner, loaded it in the truck and drove to a waste management site.

.

.

Where we discovered the reason people throw things on the side of the road. If you want to encourage the public to do the right thing? I suggest making it a little more affordable.
