A new toy.

.

The husband came home with a new toy last weekend.

.

.

And before I knew it or could grab a good before picture…

.

.

He’d trimmed an unruly hedge.

.

.

And moved on to the next.

.

.

These bushes can get out of hand quickly, and I trim them every fall. The husband always gave me Hell for bringing the trimmer in the office and cutting from an open window, but it was the only way I could reach. He ranted about how dangerous it was, how much of a mess it made…. and for years on end told me it wasn’t necessary.

You know where I’m going with this right?

.

.

Yes.

.

.

Once again I was proved right.

.

.

And trimming through the open office window commenced.

.

.

But the shrubbery was nicely shaped so I didn’t rub it in.

Well, not much.

.

.

It’s exhausting, but oh so satisfying.

.

When you have a lawn as big as ours, mowing can be a two day affair. The husband and I tag team it… me on the push mower for the front lawn, sides, upper back and around the barn…. him on the tractor for the large expanses. Did I mention we have a veritable mowing fleet?

.

.

While his sections are bigger, mine are actually harder because I make a point of never blowing grass in the flower beds.

.

.

That mulched section under the tree used to be filled with perennials…

.

.

Until the husband flung so much grass in there all the flowers got choked out and I got tired of breaking my back weeding. But I digress..

.

.

After mowing comes trimming.

.

.

And trust me, there’s a lot of that. I just added these two beauties to my stone wall bed…

.

.

And filled the baby barn’s bed with its annual marigolds. I added some tickseed (coreopsis) as well, but I’m afraid it might get too much sun… so it’s success has yet to be determined.

.

.

Yup, it’s exhausting.

.

.

But when everything is freshly mowed and trimmed?

.

.

I’m a seriously happy camper.

.

.

Though the same can’t be said for his Lordship….

.

.

Who gives me the evil eye from the back of the couch.

.

That was not at all helpful.

.

Remember the tree house our neighbors built?

.

.

The one right at the edge of their property line… even though they own 20 acres down to the water?

.

.

The one I was glad was nestled behind a few trees with leafy camouflage?

.

.

Well, there’s my husband cutting down each and every single branch that provided relief from prying little eyes.

Not at all helpful.

Not one damn bit.

.

You know your bush is too big when…..

Relax.

This is a G rated post.

I’m speaking of  a yew bush in front of our home office window.

It’s large, unruly and was in need of a pruning. Problem was, I couldn’t reach most of it from outside so……

I hung out the window and did a little hedge trimming from the inside.

This results in an utter mess and small green needles everywhere.

But what’s a girl to do when her bush needs trimming?

There.

That’s better.
