.
I spied someone on the deck railing recently, and as you can see… the royal feline was clueless.
.

.
The someone was a juvenile Coopers Hawk.
.

.
There’s good hunting under our bird feeders and this beauty was seriously interested.
.

.
After ten minutes of me taking pictures and saying hey, there’s a big bird outside…
.

.
His Lordship caught on.
.

.
Hullo gawgeous!
.

.
Raptors are fascinating creatures.
.

.
And seeing one this close is a special experience.
❤️
.
Oh wow. I would have been in awe seeing one that close.
Beautiful.

Spectacular! You were blessed by the protection of Horus.

I think Horus was a falcon, but yes… close enough.

Well, at least it wasn’t a vulture hanging out near an intensive care unit…

Much less stressful, I agree.

Well dang it, I’ve spent the last 8 minutes trying to embed into this comment a photo of a similar bird of prey sitting on the edge of our roof from just a week ago, but technology has kicked my butt again. Ah well. Cool bird.

I’ve never been able to embed pics in the comments here. But thanks for trying…

Great pictures .. and you’re so right about raptors. All birds in fact, but raptors especially.

He seemed to be minding his own business — or silently making plans for future visits. Or naybe he was just confused by the “No Violence” atmosphere of your hideaway. Beautiful bird!

He was quite happy
I’m hoping he comes back..

So pretty! Maybe a deterrent for Big Red?
Just last night, I was watching a Japanese mini-documentary about a mountainside where hundreds of people go to watch for (and photograph) migrating hawks. They were all sooo fascinated by hawks in general, not just when large groups appeared, that I felt bad for never photgraphing out neighborhood hawk. When I used to commute for work, I’d often see hawks perched on freeway lamp-posts.

I love bird watching anyway, but this guy is special.

Certainly wasn’t bothered by Dudley though…

I hope Dudley understands he’s no match for that bird.

We’ve had a hawk around our property recently. Kind of worried he might be going after our koi.
