One brave little chucker ventured out from under the barn to have a nosh with his mother.

Okay, he stayed quite close to momma…

But he’s still the only one we’ve seen out in the open.

They’re silly critters at this age.

And he was having a blast scampering all over the rock wall.

There’s a big wide world out there to explore little guy….

He/she is a little smaller than the other fawns.

And I’m not sure if that has something to do with the fact that he/she is blue eyed.

But they chow down everyday, twice a day.
.

And as long as the deep snow doesn’t roll in too soon, all should be well.

I fear for our old, always pregnant, doe.
She had a very late fawn this year and I think it’s taken it’s toll.

.
We’ve watch her age and slow down over the past few years, but now?
.
.
The poor girl is skeletal.
.
.
She comes every night for grain and apples, and is now showing up during the day for lunch…. which yes, I provide. She literally just stands there, looking in the window and waiting to be served. How can I not?

But I think this last Bambi was just too much for her, and I doubt she’ll survive the winter.
.
.
Hopefully blue eyes will continue us to visit after she’s gone.

Fall, the most dangerous time of year for these guys. The rut drains their energy and saps their strength.
