Randomness.

We’ve been busy with other things outside, but I’m still managing to keep Amazon afloat during the pandemic.

And if you’re dying to read the new Hunger Games book? Don’t bother, it was rather disappointing. And while I’d given up on Stephen King… this new collection of short stories has my late BIL in it again, thinly disguised but still recognizable to those who knew him. He and Stephen went to school together.

And no, I won’t tell you which character. I’m evil that way.

The fabulous rose I planted last year has finally decided to bloom.

IMG_4617

And it was worth waiting for.

On another note, isn’t it great when your friends get you?

IMG_4680

My girlfriend gave me this the other day and damn, it’s perfect!

IMG_4155

As is this beauty.

Have you ever tried to photograph butterflies?

It’s not easy. This was the one lucky shot out of 20.

Our raccoon decided to take a bath, dig through my garden bed and then attempted to climb up the garage the other night.

Why? I have no idea.

But even I can’t argue with that.

Reason #56 why you should always have your cell phone nearby.

Hello my name is River, and I’m an addict.

A cell phone addict.

I always have my cell phone.

In my purse, in my pocket, in my hand. It’s rarely more than 10 feet away from me at any given time…. which drives the husband crazy.  (This could be because he’s always doing something photo worthy, but that’s another blog entirely.)

The other day as I was sitting on the barn porch with a book and a cheaters bottled cocktail…..

IMG_4229

A fly had the audacity to do the backstroke in my margarita.

IMG_4230

This will not be tolerated, so after removing the thirsty Esther Williams wannabe?

My cell phone saved the day….

IMG_2116

And the rest of my  I still don’t feel comfortable going to our local pub for a real one  margarita.

Reason #56 why you should always have your cell phone nearby – cocktail fly blocking.

You’re welcome.

Because big barn needs a little time in the spotlight now and then.

Since the baby barn has been hogging all the attention lately, let me reintroduce you to my favorite spot to spend late afternoons.

Comfortable furniture, blooming pretties, a good book and a cocktail.

Lowers my blood pressure just thinking about it.

I planted this garden bed two weeks ago, took a picture and realized there’s a hole.

Damn… another trip to the nursery will be necessary.

How awful.

😈

Big barn dwarfs baby barn.

And it’s where you can find me most evenings in the summer, surveying my domain.

Cheers!

Should I be worried?

As a rule, my husband is not a reader.

At work he has to read dry as dust government documents and regulations all day long …. so for relaxation at home? It’s usually mindless television.

He does however keep a steady supply of magazines for perusing while on the throne.

And since my late aunt ran a department at Time/Life, Time magazine has always been a staple.

My question is….

Should I be worried by what he’s reading this week?

Because when I have a lot of time on my hands… it’s what I do.

If I’m self isolating?

And the husband is teleworking so I have to tiptoe quietly around the house….

I read.

IMG_3083

And when the husband is not working…… but watching old westerns with John Wayne or non stop Corona Virus news coverage that makes me want to scream?

I read.

IMG_3084

Problem is I read too much and too quickly.

12 books in 2 weeks makes me wish we were eligible for that stimulus package check.

Because if this keeps up much longer… and Goodwill and the libraries stay closed?

I’m going to need it for my Amazon bill.

This and that.

Sunset from our front porch…

IMG_6548

It never gets old.

IMG_E6202

If you haven’t read the sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale….

IMG_E6233

It does answer a lot of questions, though I can’t say I was in love with the ending.

IMG_E6318

If anyone can explain this exhaust system?

Please do… because I’m a bit baffled.

IMG_E6538

Yay for fall and all it’s ( don’t push winter it will be here soon enough) vodka flavors.

I see Mules in my future.

No, not that kind.

Although mine will probably have a kick as well.

Things I don’t like today… Part 4.

I don’t like….

Ordering flowers over the phone for a friend who just had surgery down in North Carolina. I wanted a large, impressive arrangement and was very specific with my request. I said….

No carnation fillers.

All pink and purple.

An interesting vase… definitely no clear glass.

So what did they deliver for $160?

IMG_6109

A clear glass vase, filled with carnations… and a few yellow roses and orange gerber daisies stuck in for no other reason than to piss me off.

$160 worth of everything I didn’t want!

I don’t like….

Ordering a pair of hard to find little batteries from Amazon that fit in an envelope.

IMG_6080

And having it come in a box.

IMG_6079

Talk about overkill.

IMG_6078

I don’t like…

Reading Maine native Stephen King’s latest,

IMG_6133

And realizing he’s lost his touch.

This new book? Meh…

Don’t bother.

I don’t like…

Buying a tin of Altoids to keep in my car,

IMG_6137

Getting them home and realizing…

IMG_6138

They’re slightly past their prime.

2009?

Damn. That’s worse than what I have in the back of my kitchen cabinet.

I don’t like….

My husband getting called into work on a weekend because,

IMG_E6096

Some idiot doesn’t know how to steer his hot air balloon.

Oops!
