Eclipsing 2024… with woodchucks.

.

The long awaited solar eclipse was a low key event as Casa River. Yes, we could have driven up north and seen the totality… but the traffic was nuts and the crowds were insane so we settled for 95% on the barn porch.

.

.

I went out half an hour early with a book and a beer.

.

.

I was ready.

.

.

The man cave/Barn Mahal porch proved an excellent viewing platform.

.

.

Though my attempts at photographing the event were less so.

.

.

But it was an awesome sight and we enjoyed the experience.

And while we didn’t have totality darkness, the change in light and temperature was enough to flip out our resident woodchucks who were scurrying all over the place.

.

.

When they see or hear us, they usually hide.

.

.

But not during the eclipse.

.

.

They were looking for shelter and didn’t give us a second thought.

.

.

So how about you?

Did your eclipse viewing include befuddled wildlife….

.

Mooning… it’s always popular.

.

I’m usually up early in the morning and often see the moon go down.

.

.

It’s beautiful in the winter….

.

.

Bouncing off the white snow, against a blue sky.

.

.

So I brave the cold and trot out front in my pajamas for a few nice photos.

To find I’m not the only one with that idea.

.

.

We have large open spaces around our property and people often stop for Kodak moment.

.

.

Good thing he was facing the other way. No one needs a picture of me at 5:00am wearing penguin pj’s.

.

.

😊

.

Their furniture budget is clearly higher than mine.

.

I’m all about buying quality furniture. The dining room set we’re replacing served us well for almost 40 years and I’m hoping this new set will outlive us. It was pricey, but sometimes you get what you pay for. Of course cost is relative. $11,000 is a good chunk of change to us but clearly a pittance to others.

.

.

Yes, you read that correctly.

$80,000 for a mattress.

.

.

Horse hair?

For 80 grand it should be stuffed with cashmere.

.

.

Granted, if you levitate like that every night it may be worth it.

.

.

The bed gets free massages.

The rich truly are a different species…

.

Ah, spring.

.

While most of you are enjoying tulips, daffodils and other cheerful harbingers of warm weather…in Maine things look a little different.

.

.

We had a good old fashioned N’or Easter on Thursday.

.

.

With high winds and wet heavy snow.

.

.

It was the pretty kind that sticks to bushes and makes everything feel like a winter wonderland.

.

.

But it also weighed down trees, snapped branches and left half of our state without power.

.

.

I think we ended up with a foot, though with the wind it’s hard to tell.

.

.

Since the temperatures hovered near freezing it was that awful wet, heavy snow that you have to constantly go out and clear before it becomes too saturated to move.

.

.

Yes… springtime in Maine can be a bit of a challenge.

😉
