Clam-tastic!

.

When the universe speaks, you have to listen. And the other day? It was screaming clams.

It started when the husband and I dropped by our local pub and had clam chowder for lunch. This was an oddity because they rarely make it.

The clam-athon continued when this story popped up in my news feed.

.

.

I never even knew a purple pearl was possible.

.

.

Good thing he didn’t trade them in on French onion soup. Offers have been made but the man is going to give the pearl to his daughter.

The third clammy thing that happened was a friend of ours showing up with a bucket. Her son had dug too many and she was willing to share. After a dinner of fried clams?

I heard about this:

.

.

Yes, this time it’s real.

.

.

Last year the crazy people behind Cards Against Humanity spoofed an old jar of Hellmans in a Black Friday ad campaign, but now? It really exists.

.

.

You can’t say this company takes themselves too seriously.

.

.

Or even the least bit seriously. Nope.

.

.

I feel like I’m going to have buy a jar at some point, just because.

.

.

#eatmyclam. Ya gotta love it.

News you can’t use.

.

.

With menopause, bunions and a bad knee… I’m having enough trouble with 58. Screw 200.

.

.

I’ve flown out of Boston’s Logan airport many times. Three weeks doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility.

.

.

I’m sorry, but that just bites.

.

.

Finally… a scientific formula for choosing vacation destinations.

.

.

I call foul.

I am neither loud nor boisterous, and am literally risk aversive. But Rome? I’m good with that. History, pasta and Limoncello sound like my kind of trip.

.

.

I love my state. We have a festival devoted to clams and award those who can shuck them the fastest.

.

.

Products no one needs.

.

My only question is why anyone makes these things in the first place.

.

.

I prefer my clams in chowder with heavy cream thank you very much.

.

.

Oh, hell no. I can only drink if the BeeGees are playing?

Trust me, if the BeeGees are playing…. I’ll need more not less.

.

.

I’m sorry, but they don’t. Less really is more.

.

.

While this is rather cute? It’s also a great way to take out an eye. Weaponized mallows are over the top, even for me.

.

.

.

.

No. Aside from the fact the packaging seems to be marketed for 6 year old girls…

I refuse to wear a perfume named Juicy Bunny on sheer principle.

.

Gettin’ my beer on…..

Beer.

We love it, and seek it out on a regular basis.

So when we find a new craft brewery?

Apparently Brickyard Hollow has been open for almost a year and how we never noticed it is a mystery.

Perhaps because the building used to be a 7-11?

Whatever the reason, I’m glad we know now.

There’s a rustic modern decor… which includes those horribly uncomfortable metal chairs that are popping up everywhere.

For the rounded hipped among us? This is not good.

Uncomfortable outdoor seating as well.

But the appropriate vintage photographs provide a relaxing atmosphere…

And then there’s the beer.

Bring on the flights!

We tried the Belgian, the Trestle, the Blueberry and the Amber and they were all lovely. After ordering some full size glasses,  I discovered the cocktail menu.

Which had a boozy Lime Rickey.

Of course Yarmouth is a town famous for it’s annual Clam Festival. And when you’re at the Clam Festival? You have to meet the Clam…

And have a freshly squeezed non alcoholic Lime Rickey… they’re delicious.

But a boozy version?

THANK-YOU-FROM-THE-BOTTOM------------------OF-MY-HEART

It’s simple, crisp, refreshing…. and filled with gin.

What more could you want?

Happy as the proverbial clam, I moved on to the food.

Rich creamy clam chowder with just the right amount of everything.

Husband went for Blueberry Moonshine wings while I chose a Black and Blue burger and country fries.

IMG_5382

While the burger was too thin for my taste, and slightly overcooked…. it did have a fabulous charbroiled flavor and potent Gorgonzola. The fries were dusted with some kind of slightly spicy rub which I could easily have munched on all day.

So…

Brickyard Hollow rates a solid B.

I look forward to going back and trying Key Lime Scallops, a Cuban and a Crab Cake burger.

And of course… more beer.
