Let’s play.

.

It’s Friday.

I think you have to.

.

.

I excel at very few things in life, so when it comes to games.. I stack the deck.

I like to play what I win.

And there are three games at which I am virtually unbeatable.

1.

.

Scrabble.

We have one these fancy spinning boards in the man cave/Barn Mahal and on rainy days I love nothing more than mixing a drink and beating the pants off my spouse.

2.

.

Trivial Pursuit.

I am a font of useless knowledge and have loved this game since its inception way back in the dark ages of 1981. My husband has yet to beat me (at the original or any of the additional card sets) which makes me love it even more.

3.

.

Gin Rummy.

Seven cards, down and dirty. None of that ten card easy matching shite. My mother was a shark and taught me how to play with no mercy when I was a child. My husband, who loves to play Cribbage and Pinochle… quakes when I break out a deck.

How about you?

What’s your go to rainy day game…

.

I won?

.

Let me preface this post by saying I never win anything.

Ever. In my entire life.

Nada. Zip. Zilch. Nothing.

No stuffed animals at the county fair, no raffle ticket prizes, no free sandwiches at Subway (which is something to be thankful for when you think about it) Really… I don’t win anything. Ever. I may lead a charmed life but when it comes to contests, forget about it. I’m the black hole of doom when it comes to luck.

So when I downloaded the Goodreads app a while back and started getting emails about book giveaways, I thought sure…. I’ll enter but I won’t win. I never do.

Until I did.

.

.

In the scheme of things it’s no big deal. Publishers give away free copies of new books to get feedback all the time.

But. I. Won. Something!

And my free book came in the mail yesterday.

.

.

Me!

It would not surprise me to know the Devil is currently installing central air and handing out Popsicles.

.

Gambling and goats

.

After I polished off another bottle of wine, we assembled at the picnic table to play a pseudo gambling dice game.

.

.

It’s called Left Right Center, is ridiculously easy to play and will cost you $3 a game.

.

.

I missed the first game, but enjoyed the second.

.

.

Who won?

.

.

Let’s just say my pockets were $39 fuller than when I arrived.

.

.

Flush with victory, I strolled down to meet the goats and raised my glass in greeting.

.

.

They’re such cuties.

And quite the talkers….

.

.

Have you scratched a goat today?

.

.

I highly recommend it.

.

.

Is it wrong?

.

Is it wrong that I’m taking great pleasure from whipping my other half in our weekly Scrabble games in the Barn Mahal?

.

.

Round after round.

.

.

Day after day.

.

.

Do I chortle every time it happens? Yes.

But come on… he skunks me at pool. He murders me at darts. I don’t think I’ve ever beaten him at Monopoly, Risk or chess. But when it comes to contests of trivia or anything word related?

I rule.

.

.

And yes, I take perverse pleasure in the victories.

.

.

Let the games begin.

.

So now that we have a comfortable, heated and (well stocked with beer) man cave, it was time to get down to some serious board game playing. Covid social restrictions make multi player games like Pictionary and Cards Against Humanity a no go, so we searched for something fun to play with two people.

The husband won’t play Trivial Pursuit or Gin Rummy with me anymore because I wipe the floor with him every time. So we tried a game a friend had given us last year as a gift.

.

.

Simple enough, you finish the lines from various categories… music, literature etc.

We played three games and I skunked my other half three times. Even though I gave him music questions from his favorite song.

.

.

So we moved on to a classic, Scrabble.

It wasn’t an easy start and we didn’t have a lot to build from.

.

.

My task was made even more difficult with letters like these.

.

.

And these.

.

.

And then these.

.

.

But after a marathon four and a half hour game?

I won…. and my husband was pickled.
