Peonies are the best.

I’ll take a peony bouquet over roses any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

They’re full and vibrant and smell heaven sent.
.
.
We have two large bushes near our back deck and they never disappoint.
.
.
They’re too high for woodchuck bubblers.
.
.
For which I’m quite thankful.
.
.
His Lordship enjoys them as well.
.
.
Though that might just have been the sun.

If there’s anyone who puts on a better show in a garden than a peony, I haven’t yet met them.

For a pure burst of color they’re hard to beat.
.
.
I have a few small plants in the front of the house, but it’s this old backyard beauty that was here when we moved in 20 years ago that makes the biggest statement.

Peonies can be fussy and hard to establish.
.
.
But if you manage it, they’re carefree beauty that will be enjoyed for decades.

Mother Nature is putting on her own fireworks show at Casa River.

And while it’s not the true red, white and blue of the Fourth…

Pink and purple are close enough for me.
.
.
The Japanese irises are still in bloom and the peonies are starting to pop.
.
.
They’re truly gorgeous blooms and smell divine with a rich heady fragrance.

The silver mounds are mounding nicely….
And the red geraniums you all told me to plant? Made the bulkhead doors look even more red…. so, yeah.
Day lilies are popping up among the peonies.
As well as in the shadow of the giant quince bush.
Not sure how that red fellow got in there.
Are there daylily postmen?
Begonias are begonia-ing.
And the lawn that never stops growing affords ample opportunity for the neighbors to test drive the husband’s new toy.
If only they wanted to take more than a few swipes, we could sit on the porch with an adult beverage and enjoy the summer….

Great big colorful, heavily scented blooms.
If you’ve never smelled one?
I’m sorry.
They rival roses and lilacs for heavenly natural scent….
And I fill our house with them while I can.
The husband’s little nephew used to call them Pee On Me’s.
But either way?
They’re glorious.
I like.
2. The combination of wine and chocolate?
Always a winner.
But actual wine flavored chocolate?
Score!
Get yourself some immediately…. you won’t be sorry.

3. A bean bag store that stacks their products like an ice cream cone?
I like.
4. Two for one jewelry.
Buy a bracelet get a necklace…
And they both look good.
It’s true, I can.

This one stuck his tongue out at me.
