.
Oh, those damn birdies.
.

.
Every morning dozens of starlings gather on our bedroom roof, run back and forth, drink water out of the gutters and generally drive His Lordship crazy.
.

.
If only those pesky humans would open the door.
.

These are the stone samples we brought home from the hardware store.
.

.
Theyâve been sitting by our kitchen door for a month waiting for my husband to be ready for that part of the porch replacement project.
Every once in a while I move them to sweep.
Yesterday?
I dropped one on my big toe instead.
I donât recommend that.
At all.
.

.
Nope.
Not fun.
.

.
Needless to say I wonât be going to that friendâs 4th of July party today. It hurts to walk and forget about putting on a shoe, I canât even tolerate a sock. My fingers are crossed I wonât lose the toenailâŚ
đŠ
Hope everyone else has a happier holiday!

A few days ago I posted pictures of a starling riding around on momma chuck.
They were so cute I posted them on a Maine wildlife Facebook page as well .
.

.
Lots of people liked them and left nice comments.
But then Facebookâs AI had to jump in, with its strikingly accurate portrayal of what it was seeing.
.

.
Duck.
Chuck.
It was close⌠and hey, at least they rhyme.
đ¤Ł
.
.
Peonies are the best.
.

.
There, I said it.
.

.
Iâll take a peony bouquet over roses any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
.

.
Theyâre full and vibrant and smell heaven sent.
.

.
We have two large bushes near our back deck and they never disappoint.
.

.
Theyâre too high for woodchuck bubblers.
.

.
For which Iâm quite thankful.
.

.
His Lordship enjoys them as well.
.

.
Though that might just have been the sun.
đ
.
.
A girlfriend I hadnât seen in a long time was having a yard sale so we decided to surprise her and drop in.
Little did I know it would turn into a dangerous visit.
.

.
Dangerous because she was selling her convertible Jaguar.
.

.
No, we didnât come home with it.
Though for a while there, I thought we might.
We chatted, had a nice visit ⌠and before we knew it the lunch hour had arrived. Not being familiar with her area, we asked for dining recommendations and were pointed to a golf course.
.

.
Open to the public, it had a lovely mountain viewâŚ
.

.
And the most redneck, down home clubhouse Iâve ever seen.
This sign was in the ladies room.
.

.
See what I mean?
But yeeha ambience aside, the food was quite tasty.
.

.
Chicken broccoli Alfredo for the hubs, ginger chicken teriyaki stir fry for moi.
Goes to show you canât judge a kitchen by its tacky rest room decor.
đ
.
.
I feared this day would come.
And now it has.
Sheâs back.
.

.
That horribly annoying, utterly destructive red spawn of a demon is back.
.

.
I saw her running all over and around the back deckâŚ
.

.
Which means sheâs looking for another nesting spot.
.

.
My loyal readers will remember the hell she put us through when she had her devils brood in our eaves a while back. We evicted her, only to have her chew her way through the wall in the man cave/Barn Mahal.
.

.
Sheâs no good, I tell you.
A veritable rodent menace.
.
.
In our backyard the birds eat at the bird feeders.
In our backyard the woodchucks eat under the bird feeders.
But now?
The birds are eating on top of the woodchucks.
.

.
And thatâs definitely something new.
.

.
This juvenile starling rode around on momma chuckâs back for quite a while.
.

.
Eating bugs I assume.
.

.
And momma didnât seem to mind at all.
.

.
It was wonderfully bizarre.
.

.
This last picture is my favorite.
.

.
Nothing to see here folks. Just a bird riding a woodchuckâŚ
Carry on.
đ¤Ł
.
.
Because you can never have too much useless news.
.

.
Thatâs a whole lotta fingers to lick.
.

.
You mean we havenât already ?
.

.
Had to throw in a little local Maine news because clearly this bear is living his best life.
.

.
AI MTV?
Say it isnât so..
.

.
A review doesnât get much harsher than digital diarrhea.
It must be seriously bad.
.
.
We tried a new small batch brewery last week .
.

.
Advertised as a farm setting..
.

.
It was really just a big house with a big lawn and a couple of chickens.
.

.
But no matter, they had a tasting room.
.

.
And a bar with a menu.
.

.
That⌠and interesting beer is all we ever need.
.

.
So we tasted.
.

.
And tasted.
And since I couldnât discern any recognizable plaid on the ownerâs kilt, I had to ask.
.

.
Turns out heâs not Scottish or clan affiliated. He just doesnât like pants.
And since we kept tasting, we ordered some food.
.

.
My husband went with The Perfect ScallopâŚ
.

.
Which was less than perfect . One large scallop cut into thirds, which pretty much ruined it. It was presented on some kind of bizarre cheesy foam and as you can see⌠was not meant for hearty appetites.
Since I was drinking I threw my normal culinary caution to the wind and ordered their exotic smash burger of the week ⌠which was of all things, kangaroo.
.

.
Was it awful? Yes. Dry and tasteless.
Do I regret ordering it? Absolutely.
.

.
Even the chickens were upset.
đ¤Ł
.
.
Once the little chucklets discover our deckâŚ
.

.
Itâs a constant source of entertainment.
.

.
They love hanging outâŚ
.

.
And playing hide and seek under the grill cover.
.

.
They really are sweet.
.

.
And if theyâre playing on my deckâŚ
.

.
Theyâre not eating my flowers.
.

.
Thatâs a win win.
