Leave no beer unturned.

.

Boothbay Harbor is a lovely little town to explore.

.

.

And nestled down near the water we found a new purveyor of beer.

.

.

Footbridge brewing is small and quirky.

.

.

And they don’t take themselves too seriously..

.

.

It’s a laid back, rustic space.

.

.

And as with any new brewery we visit, we sampled a flight.

.

.

But as much as we wanted to, we can’t really recommend their product. Flat and tasteless, their beer needs a lot of tweaking.

.

.

Giant googly eyes aside.

Just as we were about to leave, a fellow Marine joined us at the bar and a 45 minute conversation ensued. Thankfully for me there was a small cocktail list.

.

.

And a poison apple kept me occupied.

.

.

I’d never had Reaper’s Revenge before but oh my. It’s a spicy cinnamon liqueur that made my tongue tingle happily while my husband endlessly chatted.

After our brewery visit we drove out to East Boothbay….

.

.

A gorgeous but little known area.

.

.

Lovely old homes…

.

.

And water views.

To be continued….

.

A barn day, beer and a squatter.

.

With overcast skies and rain in the forecast my husband and I headed to the Barn Mahal for an afternoon of entertainment.

.

.

Stepping on the porch, I realized we had a squatter.

Do you see it?

.

.

In the upper corner to the right of the door.

.

.

Someone has built a nest.

❤️

.

.

After beating my husband at two games of Scrabble, we switched to pool… where my husband is guaranteed to win.

I like to play but I’m not very good. Can’t bank to save my life, but I won four out of ten so at least it wasn’t a rout.

.

.

How long did we play?

.

.

Long enough to require a keg change.

🤣

.

Batson River Fish Camp

.

After another week of unsatisfactory carpet shopping I had to throw the husband a bone so we headed for the coast.

.

.

Wells is probably the longest stretch of sandy beach in Maine and is overwhelmed with tourists in the summer.

.

.

But on the off season it’s quiet, which is how we like it.

After a stroll, we headed for beer.

.

.

And while we’ve visited other Batson locations, this was our first trip to the laid back Fish Camp version.

.

.

It was more casual than their other locations.

.

.

With an attractive fishing vibe.

.

.

A few raspberry lime sours in…

.

.

I opted for the duck fat cornbread with maple honey bourbon butter.

.

.

Ooh la la! Sheer perfection.

.

.

As was the digital fireplace that didn’t trigger my hot flashes.

.

.

Not sure what they put on top of this outdoor table to hold down the cover…but it looked like a giant wine cork to me.

😉

.

Beer, food and a decision I just can’t seem to make.

.

Because we never pass up an opportunity to do a flight.

.

.

Hobbs Tavern and Brewery.

.

.

The Two and Two white stout was delightful.

.

.

Broccoli cheese soup and a pomegranate margarita to start for me.

.

.

Husband had a yummy bacon wrapped herby meatloaf.

.

.

And I had a great turkey club with cranberry mayo.

On the furniture fabric home front… we’ve narrowed it down to this accent pattern but can’t decide between solids for the couches.

.

.

In certain conditions the light is too light.

.

.

In others, the dark is too dark.

Lord Dudley Mountcatten couldn’t care less.

.

.

But I’m leaning towards the light.

.

I had to throw him a bone.

.

After forcing my husband to endure hours of fabric selection, I offered him a reward for good behavior.

.

.

And we headed northwest from Waterville to Bigelow Brewing in Skowhegan.

.

.

Housed in a barn on the owner’s property ….

.

.

The feel is down home rustic Maine.

.

.

We’d never been here before, but as soon as I saw who was helping keep an eye on things….

.

.

I felt right at home.

.

.

We did an assorted flight…

.

.

And my husband liked the Lying Bastard. Make of that what you will.

.

.

The tasting room has live music on weekend nights…

.

.

And table supports shaped like beer bottles.

The only food on offer is from a brick pizza oven out back.

.

.

And while my crust was burnt, the garlicky chicken broccoli Alfredo pie was quite good.

.

.

Upon leaving we noticed the Xmas decorations were still out.

.

.

But the beer was good enough to bring home, so I’ll forgive them the transgression.

😉

.

News you can’t use.

.

You can’t, but someone must because there’s so much of it.

.

.

Damn. I could have gone all day without knowing that.

.

.

Worms.

You never know where they’ll turn up.

🤢

.

.

Any of my male readers want to try and explain this? Because I simply don’t see the appeal.

.

.

I’m a nature lover and believe in sharing our planet with all its creatures, but if this bastard is threatening my wine and beer?

Kill it.

Kill it on sight.

.

.

See?

Beer is good.

.

.

No mystery there.

He’s surrounded by politicians…

.

Tumbledown brewery trip.

.

We headed west the other day to visit a couple of breweries I’d been wanting to try. On the road, we saw this…

.

.

Crowd sourcing your honeymoon. That’s a new one.

.

.

Western Maine can be lovely.

Mountains, rolling hills and valleys with lots of family farms. And now, numerous solar panels.

Unfortunately the brewery I really wanted to visit was closed due to the unexpected death of their owner… so we headed for my second choice.

.

.

Tumbledown Brewing,… small batch and named for a mountain.

Unfortunately their tasting room was small as well and housed at the end of a strip mall. Not what I was expecting.

.

.

Eight beers were on tap and we tried 4.

.

.

Sitting at one of the two tables which was an upended barrel.

.

.

No.

We did not wear goggles.

.

.

As luck would have it the guy behind the counter was military so you know we (and by we I mean the husband) had to stay and talk.

One flight and a four pack to go lightened our wallet by almost $40 which proves small batch does not equal small pricing.

Review – Beer wasn’t bad. Tasting room was. Not in a hurry to return.

.

Drinking, with woodchucks.

.

It was a relatively cool evening…. and even though I won’t be comfortably perspiration free until the mercury drops and the snow falls…. the husband and I headed out to the Barn Mahal porch for an adult beverage.

.

.

I chose one of the local Wisconsin beers our neighbor brought back from her trip. And while the can was artfully decorated with birds in flight, the Central Waters brewing company’s mango wheat tasted nothing like mangoes and was a tad disappointing.

.

.

But the baby chuckers were on the move and we enjoyed their evening antics.

.

.

I believe there were five in this year’s litter…

.

.

Though it could be six because they’re everywhere you look.

.

.

With some of them head and shoulders above their siblings.

.

.

😊

.

Random nonsense.

.

Because nonsense is everywhere I look.

.

.

I have no desire to cuddle fake bread, but if that was real? Pass the butter baby!

.

.

Fox and chucks are still munching happily together. Guess this is what happens when you lay out an ample backyard buffet.

.

.

I’ve been getting hundreds of junk emails lately. Somehow, someone got my address and has been flooding me with spam. ‘Stuck poop’ is an interesting enough subject line but the fact that the word ‘solder’ is in the sender’s address?

Priceless.

.

.

This is what’s left of the pretty yellow deer proof flower I planted out back. The deer may not like it, but clearly the woodchucks did .

.

.

Ditto that for coneflower leaves.

🥴

.

.

I had to dig up the phlox, lupine and mallow due to voracious woodchuck appetites….

So now they’re all crowding my deck table in pots.

.

.

The neighbor I was cat sitting for returned from vacation and brought me a thank you gift from the Wisconsin Dells.

A bag of local beer! She knows I like sours and brought me a variety to try. Some of them are wonderfully bizarre. The lime green can? A pastry sour with peach, basil, graham cracker and vanilla.

Cheers!
