There must be starfish in Washington.

.

I love animals and enjoy learning quirky facts about their remarkable lives.

.

.

Not exactly subtle, but it sure beats yo yo dieting and spending hours getting ready for that first date.

.

.

This doesn’t surprise me at all. AI has a long way to go when it comes to simple tasks.

.

.

Brainless? Seems like there’s a whole lotta of seawater being pumped through Washington these days.

Owls rock.

We rescued an injured barn owl years ago and took him to an avian shelter for treatment. I rode in a car for an hour with an owl on my lap! It was a once in a lifetime experience.

Miscellaneous missives.

Are you a leftover person?

My husband was the second of 9 children in a home where food was never wasted. He loves them all. I was a picky only child and am a bit more selective.

There are meals I will happily eat the next day and others I’ll only eat when freshly cooked… but in our house? I’m not allowed to scrape plates into the trash.

Unfortunately, saving does not always translate to eating.

.

.

My husband doesn’t want me to throw anything out, but he also doesn’t want to eat nonstop leftovers which means our refrigerator often looks like this.

.

.

Three chicken and rice casseroles, a stewed pork chop with onion gravy, a Caesar salad from a recent restaurant lunch and two spaghettis.

Have you ever eaten leftover Caesar salad? It’s basically wilted slimey lettuce with soggy croutons. It’s not the least bit appetizing and even my husband won’t eat it the next day… but he brings it home.

Every. Single. Time.

And then throws it out.

Remember my girlfriend who was hospitalized with pneumonia? Just when we thought she was improving…. her kidneys shut down, her blood pressure skyrocketed to 200/120 and she had a mini stroke. Multiple visits to the hospital and a week of worry filled days later… she’s home and on the path to recovery.

You just never know when life will throw you a curve. Hence the much needed mistletoe margarita.

2025 is not starting off well.

I’m going with #1.

🥴

And one more thing…

I’m not the least bit religious, but for his sake?

.

.

I hope so.

I love my town

.

My neighbors are the helpful sort and with the whiplash weather we’ve been having lately, everyone’s been posting ice charts.

.

.

Mainers love to test the ice, but knowing your limits is important.

.

.

Very lucky indeed. He’s a gorgeous fellow.

A tarp wrapped plywood circle in the woods. But look, it has a porch! What a deal.

The owner lives two doors down and says Junior here goes wherever the belly rubs lead him.

I love my town

.

My town’s Facebook page was critter-centric with this week starting with this awesome visitor.

.

.

We had one on our roof a while back but I wasn’t quick enough to get a photo. They’re such glorious fellows.

.

.

I hear that on the zucchini. Everyone is trying to foist them on us lately.

.

.

Outhouse shed combo. When you’re working on something and just don’t want to waste the energy it takes to walk back to the house.

.

.

Our neighbors have lost a few birds to foxes. But I think we need to examine how #20 survived. Could have been an inside job.

.

.

Alright, so it’s not a dog waiting at the door with your slippers. You still have to admit it’s sweet…

.

Bird brains.

Part two of the Photo Ark for birds.

.

Black Crowned Crane

Those are magnificent hairdos, no doubt about it.

.

Verreaux’s Eagle Owl

.

Sleepy owl is not amused.

.

Wattled Curassow

.

This poor guy looks like he’s balancing half a walnut on his nose.

.

Purple Starling

.

We have starlings, but they’re nowhere as impressive as these.

.

Palm Cockatoo

.

A beak that could crush cocktail ice in no time flat.

.

White Naped Cranes

.

I totally want to want to animate that photo to music.

.

Tawny Frogmouth

.

The little guy looks pissed. Whoever stole his mouse? Give it back…

.

Northern Bald Ibis

.

Wow. If anyone was ever in dire need of a toupe, it’s that guy.

.

Common Bay Owl

.

Owls.

They’re da bomb.
