Heartbroken.

.

The beautiful stray cat we fell in love with and gave a home?

.

.

Has been returned to his rightful owners.

.

.

I think you can guess that wasn’t my choice…. but when you receive a call from the local police department, there really isn’t any way to avoid it.

Apparently his people had been frantically searching for him but aren’t active on social media and didn’t see my original posts about finding him. A friend of theirs alerted a lost animal site…

.

.

And there really was no doubt.

.

.

After the police gave me their phone number, I found this on my FB messenger.

.

.

Damn.

.

.

They live right up the road from us.

The guilt was strong, because I really wanted to keep him.

.

.

But look, he has a twin brother.

.

.

Double damn. There were worried children.

I had to call.

So I called.

They came, they thanked us profusely, they took their beautiful kitty, and yes…. I cried.

Now the house seems emptier than ever.

.

Welcome to the family… I think.

.

Meet our new family member.

.

.

The cat my husband swore we wouldn’t have any more of after our last one passed because he wanted to be free to travel.

.

.

This handsome fellow has been wandering our neighborhood (in the cold Maine winter!) for weeks. A woman down the road took him in, but her dogs kept attacking.

.

.

Our farming neighbors across the street took him in, but they have 4 cats, 2 dogs and 3 kids in a 1,000 square foot house…. so they begged us to shelter him.

.

.

The husband said yes, temporarily while we tried to find his owners.

He’s clean, healthy, flea and ear mite free… and a genuine love bug. Someone clearly cared for this kitty. But after posting on numerous lost pet sites, numerous local Facebook pages and asking everyone I know? It looks like he’s ours.

And the husband who said no way, no more pets?

.

.

Yeah.

He’s been charmed.

.

.

And to think it only took three days.

Such is the power of cats.

Going hog wild…

I’m beginning to wonder if my town has a problem.

A pig problem.

On the contrary, I love pigs….

But I’m starting to think they’ve all heard about the backyard buffet we lay out and are on their way.

You see, they’ve been escaping at an alarming rate.

Every time I check our local FB page –

Well, they’d be pretty hard to miss now wouldn’t they?

And as much as I love seeing new wildlife at out house, technically these guys aren’t wild…

And usually make a mess of their lawns.

So unless they’re housebroken and well groomed?

Kindly keep your piggies corralled.

I’d hate to explain that accident to my car insurance company.

She’s a peach.

Technically, she’s a Hurricane Katrina rescue dog named Peaches who belongs to the farmers across the street…. but yes, she’s a peach as well.

They went out of town over the weekend so we had dog duty… which isn’t a hardship because I’m currently petless for the first time in my life due to a husband who wants to travel when he retires next year.

I agree Peaches.

Boo and hiss to that.

IMG_9259

Peaches is a rough and tumble farm dog who dearly missed her father…. and spent an inordinate amount of time looking for him out the window.

IMG_9265

She couldn’t quite grasp the fact that she wasn’t allowed to cross the road and go back home…. so even though she’s a free range canine, when we had her outside she had to be tied.

IMG_9299

That didn’t go over very well…

So the first thing she did in retaliation?

IMG_9324

Yeah.

Peaches – 1.

Alvin – 0.

Peaches is also the only dog I know who enjoys self flagellation.

She picks up her toys and beats herself silly. To the point where I worry she’ll hurt herself.

Naturally she only flagellated half heartedly whenever I filmed, but you get the idea.

Hey, whatever floats your boat.

It kept her occupied, and the chipmunk population breathed a sigh of relief.
