Have you ever had an oh shit moment?
.

.
The look on this woodchuck’s face says he’s about to have one.

.
.
I want to stay mad at them.
.

.
But when they’re this damn cute?
.

.
It’s hard.
.

.
They’re leaving my flowers alone for now.
.

.
And seem to be satisfied stealing the deer apples.
.

.
Cute little buggers.
.
.
I saw this the other day and was sorely tempted.
.

.
I totally need cherry tomato toting ants.
In other local news….
.

.
Such a neighborly thing to do.
And lately a dip in the pool has been sounding wonderful with temps being hot, hot, hot.
.

.
Of course this is Maine, so while it felt like 104 one morning…
.

.
Two days later it felt like 45.
.

.
I replanted my left over garden bed with geraniums after the baby woodchucks ate all the petunias.
.

.
But not before the little bastards darlings chewed all the leaves off my gay feather.
.

.
At least they left the blooms this time.
🥴
.

.
Now I’m wondering what an appropriate beef jerky card message would be.
I wanna hold your ham?
Nice to meat you?
Don’t go bacon my heart.
I have a t-bone to pick with you?
.
.
We had a spell of wicked dry weather this summer. No rain for weeks… so everything was brown and dry.
.

.
Including the chucker family. They’re too short to reach the bird bath I kept filling, so I took to offering them a drink on their level.
.

.
I’d never watered woodchucks before and wasn’t sure how they’d take to it….
.

.
But the poor thirsty things ran right to the bowl as soon as I walked back into the house.
.

.
Guess they needed something to wash down those weeds.
.
.
I don’t often catch the baby woodchucks nibbling my flowers but this little dude was quite brazen.
.

.
Strolled right up on the deck and started chewing the bloomless petunia I’d transplanted from the garden to a pot because they were eating it.
Yeah.
That worked well….
.
.
.
.
In life, you sometimes have to fight for what’s yours.
.

.
And if you’re a baby woodchuck, you have to fight birds.
.

.
They’re always in the way…
.

.
And always eating your food.
.

.
At times, you’re outnumbered.
.

.
And when that happens?
.

.
You call in reinforcements.
.
.
When the nightly buffet of apples and deer grain is laid…
.

.
I also put out some special grain free dry dog food with taurine for the fox and skunks.
.

.
Problem is the woodchucks and ducks like it as well and scarf it up quickly.
.

.
But sometimes they have competition.
.

.
And a stand off with Starlings begins.
.

.
Sometimes it gets physical.
.
.
Two baby woodchucks showed up for apples yesterday. ( we put them out for the deer but these little guys are beating them to it )
.

.
The chuck on the right seemed to be annoying his brother with his close proximity.
.

.
Before long they were squabbling.
.

.
And a sibling scuffle ensued.
.

.
Left woodchuck held his ground, as well as his apple.
.

.
And right woodchuck was forced to step aside.
.

.
Family.
What are ya gonna do?
.
.
What… you were expecting Christ and the Madonna?
.

.
Sorry, wrong blog.
.

.
On my page you get momma chucker and the baby that sticks close to her side.
.

.
She’s started to swat them away when they try to nurse….
.

.
But brings them to the buffet every day.
.

.
Happily they love to eat broad leaf weeds.
.

.
Because momma’s not sharing her apples.
.

.
Starling photo bomb on the left.
.
.
Most of the time the Facebook ‘memory’ feature annoys me, but last week it flashed back to this day 8 years ago and I had to laugh.
.

.
Because 8 years ago that day our farming neighbor’s goats broke free and headed straight to our house. Have you ever tried to herd goats? As our neighbor will tell you…
.

.
It’s not a one man job. We chased them around our property for quite a while and got nowhere, but with reinforcements we eventually managed to shoo them back home.
In other news, I saw this and had to share.
.

.
Now that’s what I call mother’s revenge.
.

.
Scrabble. Even with letters like that I reigned supreme and won the game.
.

.
We have a dying shrub and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out why. We planted it 18 years ago and have never had an issue.
.

.
Then I looked underneath it one day and saw the giant woodchuck burrow. Mystery solved.
😡
.

.
I do.
I really do…
.
