Hope springs eternal.

.

These sparrows have it in for our poor cat and are seriously driving him crazy.

.

.

All of a sudden there are flocks of them gathering on our back deck and Lord Dudley Mountcatten is positively beside himself with angst.

.

.

He cackles, he cries, he paws at the window and howls to go outside.

.

.

And then runs right to the bushes where they hide when I oblige.

.

.

His Lordship is not a graceful feline and more often than not falls flat on his face.

.

.

Unless he’s sticking it in the bush on purpose.

.

.

He’s on a leash, but there’s not much walking going on.

.

.

Those birds should be ashamed of themselves. Before long Dudley will be needing kitty Valium.

.

Follow the birdies.

.

We have a group of sparrows that live to tease Lord Dudley Mountcatten .

.

.

They perch on the deck railing and patio furniture… driving him absolutely insane when he’s on the back of the couch.

.

.

So when we go outside for walkies? His Lordship is primed to hunt.

.

.

Not that he ever comes close mind you. Those birds are too smart and too fast.

.

.

But we chase them from bush to bush around the house and hope springs eternal.

.

.

They know he can’t catch them, and seem to take great pleasure in the game.

.

.

That sparrow is smiling. I know it.

.

.

You can’t really tell from the picture, but trust me.. he was airborne here.

By the time we make a full trip around the house? They’re back on the railing…. and laughing.

.

.

Lord Dudley on the other hand…

.

.

🤣

.

The one in which Lord Dudley Mountcatten attempts to climb a tree….

.

Dudley does well on his harness/leash and knows his limitations, which in actuality is 30 feet. His chest to my wrist. His Lordship chooses the direction and we walk, stroll, sit and occasionally sprint. What we don’t do is climb trees.

.

.

Until the other day when he sat at the base of the Bradford pear watching a bird one minute….

.

.

And jumped onto the bark the next. Problem is, his lordship does not have any tree climbing experience and literally just hung there.

.

.

He scooched a little farther up, with me trying hard not to laugh …

.

.

And finally made it up on a lower branch. Which is when he looked at me as if to say, what the Hell do I do now?

One aborted climb later..

.

.

It was over before it really begun.

.

.

I give him an A for effort, but a D for technique.

.

Miscellaneous nonsense.

.

Autumn in New England. The pumpkins, the apples, the brightly colored foliage. You really can’t beat it.

.

.

Nice try Florida, but you’re not even close.

.

.

The poor man has been eating tofu burgers and kale sausage… can you really blame him?

.

.

Gee, here’s an idea…. how about cleaning the litter box you freakin’ idiot.

.

.

I think the parent foxes have booted the kids out of the den. They’re here every evening now.

💕

.

The whole fam damily!

.

We’ve had a lovely pair of foxes visit our backyard for years, but this season?

They brought the kids.

.

.

While we’ve seen a kit or two every once in a while, it’s a rare thing since our back lawn is large and predominantly cover free. Momma fox is a careful parent and won’t expose her offspring to open areas unless she knows it’s safe.

.

.

So you can imagine how our jaws dropped when 6 foxes appeared in our backyard recently.

.

.

No, you’re not counting incorrectly… there are only five pictured.

.

.

By the time I got over the shock and grabbed my phone… number 6 had moved over to the blueberry bushes, out of range.

.

.

But damn, 5 foxes is still an impressive sight.

❤️

.

Birdseed bandit.

.

I’ve been waking up in the morning to completely empty bird feeders, which is odd because I refill them every evening. Usually this means the deer are back… but we’ve only seen one or two wandering around lately. Then last night, I flipped on the light at 10:00pm.

.

.

Busted!

.

.

The seed thief caught in the act.

.

.

If you think those pudgy raccoons aren’t limber, I’ve got news for you …

.

.

They can shimmy up and down poles as well as a squirrel and hang by two feet at will.

.

.

Excuse the poor quality pics, I was shooting through the window.

.

.

When Fatso finished emptying the feeders, he plopped down on the ground with the skunks.

.

.

Who were none to happy to share and gave him their business ends.

.

.

Cute little masked devils.

💕

.

Random tidbits.

.

We’ve finally received some much needed rain and our lawn has responded accordingly.

.

.

The grass has started to turn green… just in time for it to turn brown in the fall…. and Lord Dudley Mountcatten approves.

.

.

Not that you’d know it by his face.

.

.

And while the grass is busy turning green, my husband is busy turning his rubber truck mat black.

.

.

Back to Black to be precise, which made me start singing AC/DC … and it totally went over my other half’s head.

.

.

Fall is here and cooler temps mean summer flowers are on clearance sale, like these sweet little hibiscus I picked up for the kitchen porch. They won’t last long… but they’re damn sure pretty right now.

.

.

Another reason to love my town. A cart full of free flowers.

❤️

.

Random tidbits.

.

We’ve had some much needed, glorious rain lately and though another leak has sprung in the continuing nightmare that is our roof…. don’t ask, I’m too disgusted to talk about it ….. our once brown lawn is green again.

.

.

With just a hint of leaves starting to turn in the background.

.

.

I’m wondering how vibrant the autumn show will be this year due to the long summer drought. Fingers are crossed.

.

.

So true I had to share.

.

.

Asparamancer?

It’s official, I’ve heard everything now.
