The calm before the storm.

.

As I sit here typing this post, a hurricane is blowing its way past us outside. Thankfully the worst of it will be felt to our north… and though we already have tree branches down and will probably lose power later this afternoon, I’m not too worried. Maine rarely sees hurricanes so people were panicking and buying every battery and bottle of water they could find, but we lived in coastal North Carolina for 17 years. That was the time to worry.

Last evening after putting away the porch and deck furniture, bringing bird feeders and hanging flower baskets inside and tying down the grill cover … we did what one does on the eve of a hurricane.

We went for ice cream.

.

.

Cones in hand, we enjoyed the glorious show Mother Nature was putting on in the sky.

.

.

.

.

.

These are untouched photos from my phone. It really was that fabulous.

.

.

.

.

It was one of those sunsets you hate to see end.

.

Still awesome…

.

Are you tired of rock filled posts?

.

.

Then you’ve come to the wrong blog.

.

.

The Inner Sanctum trail at Ausable Chasm is well named as we were surrounded by cliffs and rushing water …. blissfully alone with the grandeur. A veritable rock sanctuary.

But all good things must end and this staircase was the beginning.

.

.

One last look around before we climbed up.

.

.

.

And I won’t lie, it was hard to leave this fabulous trail.

.

.

Spending the day here made us feel small, in a good.. we’re just tiny specks in the universe… way.

.

.

Mother Nature is a marvelous architect.

.

.

And we enjoyed every minute.

.

I blamed the wrong critter.

.

Ever since we painted the barn/man cave the perfect shade of red, I’ve been sputtering about recovering the porch furniture because now… it clashes.

.

.

I recently bought some color coordinated fabric and found a local woman who’s going to do the job.

.

.

Me… sew? Yeah, that’s not happening. So while I was waiting for the seamstress to tell me she was done with prom and wedding dress alterations, I saw this:

.

.

WTH?

.

.

The edges of all the cushions had been shredded!

I ranted, I blamed woodchucks. I cursed, I blamed mice. I sputtered, I blamed chipmunks. But guess what?

.

.

The real culprit..

.

.

Was a bird looking for nesting material.

Mother Nature. She has all manner of ways to drive you crazy.

.

The herd.

Lots of repeat visitors from past years, and though they might all look the same to you…. we recognize and call quite a few of them by name.

Alright… Pregnant, the Buck, Little Guy and Dark Doe aren’t so much names as designations. But still.

They’re all currently blowing winter coats and the lawn is full of hair clumps.

Mother Nature is a wonderful thing.

It’s starting to look pretty in my neck of the woods.

It’s Fall y’all!

Autumn is my favorite time of year.

Crisp air, apples, pumpkins and fiery trees….

So when I crash my car into one of those pretty colored trees because I’m driving home one handed snapping pictures for my blog?

I’m telling the police it’s your fault.
