Risking life and limb for my blog.

.

Never let it be said I don’t put myself in harm’s way for my loyal readers.

.

.

Yes, I drove home from the store one handed the other day just so I could share a few shots of our beautiful fall foliage in Maine.

.

.

We had a very hot dry summer…

.

.

So the leaves aren’t as vibrant as they could be.

.

.

But it’s still a pretty sweet show.

.

.

Minus the spots and streaks on my dirty windshield that is.

.

.

No small animals were killed while I swerved left for that burning bush…

.

.

And swerved right for that perfect sugar maple.

.

.

Good thing we don’t get much traffic on our road.

.

.

Or police cruisers.

.

.

Ah, autumn in New England.

.

.

If you’ve never experienced it….

.

.

What are you waiting for?

.

.

Bambi… the Devil’s Spawn.

.

Our old doe surprised us recently. She’s been with us for a long time, and every year? She has young.

She was pregnant so often, that’s actually what we call her.  Pregnant.

Original? No.

But she didn’t look like a Betty,  so go with it.

This year she’s been moving more slowly and looks quite thin. It’s September and we hadn’t seen her with any fawns so we figured that time of her life had passed.

Until yesterday….

.

.

When we looked out and saw her bringing a baby out of the field.

.

IMG_3153

.

It’s late in the year to have such a young spotted fawn.

.

IMG_3150

.

And to be honest, something about this baby looked…. off.

.

IMG_3155

.

At first I couldn’t put my finger on it.

.

IMG_3158

.

And then I thought…

.

IMG_3163

.

That little sucker just looks….

.

IMG_3170

.

Mean.

.

IMG_3172

.

Look at this last picture and tell me I’m wrong.

.

IMG_3171

.

Go on, I dare you.

A rare sighting.

.

No, it’s not me eating a meatless meat patty or getting down with the free Billy Ocean album the husband’s playing to torment me in his barn, man cave large building filled with crap.

It’s this:

.

IMG_3061

.

Eight baby turkeys on the run, headed straight for our bird feeders.

.

IMG_3062

.

Momma brought them up for a nosh for the very first time since we’ve lived here.

.

IMG_3071

.

And that, my friends…. deserves a blog.

.

IMG_3081

.

The little guys were so sweet.

.

IMG_3089

.

Scratching the ground and pecking for seed.

.

IMG_3096

.

They stayed close to mom.

.

IMG_3105

.

And braved the great wide open for a snack.

.

IMG_3119

.

When mom looked wary?

.

IMG_3121

.

Babies did as well.

And a few seconds after this riveting video that will cause my new found legion of YouTube fans to flee….

.

.

Momma got spooked and gathered her chicks.

.

IMG_3131

.

Funny thing was, all the babies ran one way and she ran the other.

.

IMG_3133

.

The chicks gathered.

.

IMG_3137

.

Huddled, and plopped right down to wait.

.

IMG_3141

.

When the coast was clear, momma called.

.

IMG_3142

.

They ran back.

And before I could focus?

.

IMG_3143

.

Everyone went flying for the woods.

Woodchuck dining.

.

The brothers are still with us.

.

IMG_3016

.

Getting so fat I can hardly tell them from their mother these days.

.

IMG_3018

.

Although how you get fat from eating lettuce I’m sure I don’t know.

.

IMG_3019

.

I never tire of watching these little scutters eat.

.

IMG_3023

.

And the fact the two remaining siblings still stick close together makes me smile.

.

IMG_3024

.

They don’t always get along….

.

IMG_3027

.

And have been known to tussle over a prime carrot slice now and then…..

.

IMG_3030

.

But you rarely see one without the other.

Am I jealous the brothers are able to go out to eat and be served tasty meals?

Well, maybe a little.

Deer me.

.

He surely is a handsome devil.

.

IMG_3043

.

Strutting out of the woods with his son.

.

IMG_3041

.

Always wary of the neighbor’s dogs.

.

IMG_3045

.

And the crazy lady with the camera.

.

IMG_3047

.

The time of year I worry about him is almost upon us.

.

IMG_3049

.

And as much as autumn is my favorite season….

.

IMG_3054

.

It brings with it rifles and bullets and trophy hunters.

.

IMG_3056

.

And I’ll fear for our beautiful visitors.

Reason #612 why I hate this new editor.

.

Bear with me while I bitch.

(I have two weeks worth of scheduled posts in the queue so the bitching will be limited at this time.)

Ever since the husband started teleworking in March, I’ve been doing a lot of blogging on my phone. Which, until the new roll out of the editor from Hell, was fine.

But now that people are being forced to use it, things have changed… at least for me.

My friend from  No Facilities, Dan Antion, is always nice enough to include photos of the rabbits he sees on his walks for me. With a backyard family of foxes, bunnies are the one critter we never see at Casa River.

But when I look at his posts now…

This is what I see –

.

.

Text over photos.

.

.

Photos over photos.

.

.

Text over text.

.

.

And photos over text.

Anyway you look at it, it’s a mess.

So if any of WordPress’s inappropriately named ‘Happiness Engineers’ drop by to say hello?

Be sure and tell them I ain’t happy.
