To snow, or not to snow?

.

We finally got a few inches of white stuff on the ground and I figured it was time to make Lord Dudley Mountcatten walk the proverbial plank.

.

.

He was a bit hesitant…

.

.

But made a mad dash to the shallow patches beside the house.

.

.

When he hit the slightly deeper parts he looked back as if to say… wtf?

.

.

After which he plonked the Royal butt down and refused to move. A few minutes of chilly bird watching later, he called it quits and ran for the house.

I’m calling this progress.

.

NOW it looks like Christmas.

.

I woke up to a winter wonderland this morning as our first real snow of the season fell overnight.

.

.

It wasn’t the 6-8 inches they predicted for our area…

.

.

But it coated everything in glorious white… so that’s alright with me.

What wasn’t a welcome sight?

.

.

The creature highlighted here.

The tiny devil who wreaked havoc with us, our house and our barn last year. The little red bitch with sharp teeth. I thought we’d seen the last of her after numerous evictions and nest busting this fall. But no…

She’s baaaack!

.

.

I know just how you feel Dudley.

.

He was not impressed.

.

We had our first light dusting of snow last week and the husband thought he’d let Lord Dudley Mountcatten experience it firsthand. (Or paw, as the case may be)

.

.

A thorough sniff was taken from the doorway.

.

.

And tentative steps were taken…

.

.

Then he beat feet under the table where there was no snow.

.

.

A few seconds were spent in internal debate before scuttling out the other end and trotting back to the warm house…

.

.

Where a not so subtle request was made to ignite the heating pad.

Impressed by snow?

I think that’s a resounding no.

6-8 inches are forecast tonight. Can’t wait to plop him in the middle of that tomorrow.

😈

.

Maine, glorious Maine… part 2.

.

It’s funny, but one of the most famous tourist attractions in my state is a sign.

.

.

Yes, those really are the names of Maine towns and I’ve visited all of them. Didn’t even need a passport.

.

.

I admit it, I partied heartily in many a gravel pit back in the day.

.

.

Mud season was virtually non existent this year due to the lack of heavy snow last winter. Can’t say I really missed it.

.

.

I used to gripe constantly about the cold, but with internal menopausal heating? Now I say bring it!

.

.

Yes, if you visit Maine you must have your picture taken with the giant boot at L.L. Beans. And to be honest…. it’s not just for tourists.

.

.

That’s the husband and our niece a few years back.

.

.

We took her Christmas shopping and made her pose.

😊

.

Hope springs eternal.

.

Yes, the husband bought another tarp in anticipation of another rain storm.

.

.

And yes, he decided to put it on the roof on a windy day.

.

.

What a good idea that was.

.

.

Was I helping?

Yes.

.

.

Was I also laughing my *ss off and photographing the endeavor?

.

.

Of course.

.

.

At least this tarp is heavier and smaller so it doesn’t hang over the side and flap in the breeze like the last one.

Will it stay on the roof during a storm? Doubtful, but not for lack of trying on the husband’s part.

.

.

Required shot of our backyard with the paltry amount of winter snow taken from the top of my ladder.

.

I love my town… Part who cares anymore.

.

Our town has come up with some marvelously creative ways to keep kids active and engaged during the Covid months. This is the latest.

.

.

Businesses and public areas are all displaying clues.

In other news, people are offering free treasures.

.

.

Dirty, smoke stained old cups from a discontinued set? Christ, don’t tell my husband.. he’d be on them like white on rice.

.

.

An icicle contest. Most excellent!

.

.

Our big one had grown to 5 feet so I proudly entered it to take the lead…..

.

.

Until Robert showed up.

.

.

Damn you Robert. You and your massive projectile.

.

Random winter clutter

.

In Maine, in the winter…. the shrubbery arms itself.

.

.

Come at me with that hedge trimmer now bitch. I dare you.

.

.

Cow on a plow. Take that you flakey little green troll.

.

.

Lord Dudley Mountcatten enjoys the morning sun shining through my filthy windows and likes to relax on the back of the sofa.

He’s so relaxed that sometimes he falls sound asleep and lands on the sill.

.

.

And tries to pretend is was on purpose.

.

.

Nice try Dudley, but I know better. I heard the plop.

Next up, Maine wisdom from The Flatlanda in Fairfield.

.

.

And speaking of winter, we’ve had a decided lack of snow this season. Mere inches that melts shortly after it falls. In previous years March looked like this:

.

.

That’s my husband walking the road in front of our house.

This year, we have green soggy grass. No climate change my *ss.

.

Snow globe dining.

.

Maine people have always known how to work around the weather. And though this winter has been mild compared to previous years, Covid restrictions have required businesses to use their imaginations like never before.

.

.

Pineland Farms started life as a state run institution for the “idiotic and feeble minded” in 1907. Many horror stories floated out of those buildings, some from my cousin who worked there with mentally handicapped children in the late 70’s. It was closed in 1996 due to scandal and rumors of unsatisfactory care and has since undergone an amazing transformation.

.

Nature trails, event weddings, a farm cooperative and store. They sell the beef they raise and the produce they grow. They make wonderful cheese and have a tasty little restaurant.

.

.

But now?

.

.

They have life sized snow globes as well.

.

.

What’s not to love?
