Random nonsense

.

Have you seen the new yellow watermelons at the grocery store?

.

.

I had to try one… and to be honest I wasn’t that impressed. The texture was a little strange and I don’t think it was nearly as sweet as the red.

.

.

No wonder it always looks like dolphins are having fun. They’re high.

.

.

I’ve had this houseplant on a window shelf for years. I can’t remember the name, but it’s always been a small steady presence…until this month when it decided to grow long tentacles and turn into an alien. If I disappear from WordPress suddenly? You’ll know why.

.

.

Don’t think raccoons are accomplished acrobats? I beg to differ.

.

.

We’re dry in Maine. Unusually dry for this time of year. As in parts of our lawn are crunching and half the state is in drought conditions. Me? I’m still dragging 300 feet of hose out to the back 40 to keep our new trees alive. It seems we just can’t win when it comes to picking a time to plant.

.

.

Whaaat! Not my ice cream.

.

.

Whew. Only Floridian ice cream.

Sorry Florida..

.

Bad timing.

.

When a storm is moving in and thunderstorms are threatening? That’s when my husband decides it’s a good time to start installing a barn gutter and downspout.

.

.

How close was the storm?

.

.

Basically right overhead.

.

.

So when the sky opened up and rain started pouring down? There was only one thing to do…

.

.

Pour an adult beverage and watch it fall.

🤣

.

Random skies and sammies.

.

Woke up this morning to an odd light in our front yard.

.

.

The sun was shining through little peaks in the clouds and it was positively eerie.

.

.

This being Sunday, it was my day to cook for the weekly man cave pool tournament… but this time, I took your advice.

.

.

Fresh ham salad and chicken salad sandwiches on flaky croissants.

.

.

With fruit plate accompaniment. Pretty… and so much less time consuming.

👍

.

You know you’ve had a lot of rain when…..

.

As I mentioned before, spring has brought an abundance of showers to my little corner of Maine. As proof…. I offer the new visitors who dropped by this week.

.

.

A pair of mallard ducks who’ve made our backyard puddle their temporary home.

.

.

We had ducks as pets years ago and I’ve always enjoyed watching them. They’re quite comical.

.

.

But this pair is wild and flies off if they spot me. So for now, this is as close as my zoom lens will get me.

.

What’s at the end of your rainbow?

.

Winter in Maine was virtually nonexistent this year. One good snow storm and enough wind to blow down even the sturdiest of little piggy houses was about it. Now that spring is starting to emerge what we are having is rain.

Lots of rain. Rain every other day. And while that can be a bit depressing….

.

.

It’s hard to argue with the beauty it leaves behind.

.

.

I don’t know why, but we’re blessed with killer rainbows at Casa River. And even though there’s no pot of gold at the end…

.

.

There is a cat…. which is the next best thing.

.

.

😊

.

I love my town

.

Sometimes things look a little different in my state.

.

.

Don’t knock it, you can carry quite a few six packs in that bucket.

Some of our locals are poets.

.

.

The benefit of living in a small rural town filled with farms? Our food pantry is always well stocked for those less fortunate.

.

.

Maine is on a temperature roller coaster right now.

.

.

I swear I’m getting whiplash.

.

.

But still…

.

.

Life is good.

.

Views from the other side of a Nor Easter….

.

We woke up to a slightly different landscape this morning.

.

.

And after a solid day and night of howling winds, it was time to take stock.

And pictures.

.

.

There were some impressive drifts.

.

.

And swirls.

.

.

The backyard had its own mountain range.

.

.

And the front?

.

.

Buried.

.

.

The snowblower had its work cut out for it finding the driveway…

.

.

Did I mention the wind was still blowing?

This didn’t bother Lord Dudley Mountcatten as he was enjoying the early morning sun….

.

.

Though the table drifts did block his bird viewing. It’s rough to be a cat.
