In life, symmetry is rare.

So when you see a baby woodchuck….

In the woodshed?

You reward him with an apple.

Because he’s just that cute.
And he doesn’t always get along with his family.
I think we can all relate to that.

It’s fierce.
And when her babies are around?

(Yes, I’m talking about woodchucks…. were you expecting something else?)

When her babies are here….

And her babies are there…

Momma knows no fear.
Take a look at who she chased the other evening.
You go momma chucker!
At the beginning of the season I bought 2 large pots of various blooming pretties for the big barn porch.
They were gorgeous, and looked like this:

They were absolutely thriving.

And then….

They weren’t.
Today?

Yes, you adorable little devil.

I’m talking to you…
And I am not happy!
Have I mentioned how much I love the baby woodchucks?
If not, get used to it… because I’ve been spending a lot of time making friends with them.

I’ve found sliced apples are a great ice breaker.

And if I’m enjoying a little Crown Royal apple while making woodchuck friends… all the better.

It took a while for them to get used to me and they were pretty hesitant to come out with me so close.
But the lure of apples proved too much.
Admit it.
That’s pretty damned cute.
Do you see him?

There, on the end of the stone wall.

It’s a little baby chucker.

And I am totally in love with these guys.

They’ve started to use the wall as their own personal jungle gym….

And scamper around like little Tasmanian devils.

It’s entertaining as hell.
Because I can.

I’m seriously in love with this little critter.

I know most people see them as pests and hate them.

But other than a few holes here and there….

This one’s never done any harm.

And a cuter garbage disposal for leftover salad scraps you’re not apt to find.

Last year we had a momma woodchuck and 4 babies.

This year…. only one.

I’ve yet to determine if it’s momma or one of her kids.
Looking across the street to our neighbor’s organic vegetable farm is always interesting.

But this time of year, it’s downright beautiful.

Who knew artichokes could be so pretty?
And when our neighbor has wood chips delivered….

HE HAS WOODCHIPS DELIVERED.

When you’re a farmer’s child?
You don’t need no stinkin’ sandbox.

On the critter front,

We’re down to one lone woodchuck.

He’s still fat…

And still clumsy…

And still hangs out on our deck once in a while. But it’s autumn, and all his brothers and sisters are finding dens and getting ready for winter. I doubt even this one will be here much longer.
Sigh…

Autumn also means the deer are changing into their darker winter coats. One summer coated hold out is on the right for comparison.

A murder of crows have now discovered our bird bath.
Why are they called a murder?
Uh oh.
And finally, we have a new skunk in town.

I admit I never really paid attention to skunk tails before, but we’ve had so many different families this year I’ve gotten to recognize them by their individual patterns.
This is Tippy.

Brilliantly named for the white tip on her tail.
Is she really a she?
I neither know, nor care to get close enough to find out.

I hadn’t checked my spam folder in a while and boy, was it bursting.
Let’s take a look.
We’re a group of volunteers and starting a new scheme in our community. Your website offered us with valuable info to work on. You’ve done a formidable job and our entire community will be thankful to you.
This was interesting since it was posted on my blog about Woodstock. If the new scheme of their community is peace, love and drugs?
They’re a little late.

Right here is the right site for anyone who wants to find out about this topic. You understand a whole lot its almost tough to argue with you (not that I actually would want to…HaHa). You definitely put a new spin on a subject which has been written about for many years. Great stuff, just wonderful!
This was on my post about baby woodchucks.
And while I appreciate the compliment, I wasn’t aware the subject had been written on that extensively.

I like this site, it’s a master peace !
Clearly this spammer enjoyed my post about the Red Rocks of Sedona, and who could blame him? Shame he doesn’t know how to spell…

I am glad for writing to make you understand of the incredible experience my wife’s princess experienced browsing your web page. She even learned so many things, which included how it is like to have an incredible teaching spirit to have the mediocre ones completely know just exactly a number of advanced topics. You truly did more than people’s desires. Thank you for producing the priceless, dependable, revealing and even fun guidance on the topic to Janet.
Janet is quite welcome. I constantly strive to do more than people’s desires with my advanced topics and am thrilled to be recognized. Please give the princess my regards.
I imagine she looks something like this:

Hello there! This article couldn’t be written much better!
Reading through this article reminds me of my previous roommate!
He constantly kept preaching about this. I will send this
article to him. Fairly certain he’s going to have a great read.
Many thanks for sharing!
One has to wonder who this spammer’s previous roommate was and why he constantly preached about the Suc It product I blogged about.

And finally there’s this one, which was a little too spot on… even for me.
It was posted on my previous blog about spam: Monty Python and Spam….
Thanks for sharing such an awesome information with us.

Pythons for Monty Python.
Well….
They were close.

The photo files need purging again so…

Mother woodchuck and her last baby.
The other 3 have taken off for parts unknown.

And I get the feeling this final child isn’t the brightest bulb in the pack.

Someone needs to tell him we eat from the bowl, not sit in it.

Or lie in it for that matter.

Our beautiful buck is back.

Which makes me nervous as it’s hunting season.

Fingers crossed no one breaks up his family.

This little devil was perched on the feeder bar waiting for an unsuspecting meal the other morning…

I saw feathers on the lawn later in the day, so mission accomplished.

The flies have been thick for the past few days and target the deer mercilessly.

It’s my opinion this doe was sticking her tongue out at the flies…
And not the photographer.
Finally, who needs video games….

When you’ve got real live angry birds right on the back lawn?
Work on the baby barn continues, albeit slowly.

My husband’s master plan involves a serious amount of temporary screwing, refitting, removing and replacing. He’s not a huge fan of measuring… but he’s a man.
This is not surprising.

Of course this means 3 times as much work.

I think one planned demolition and rebuild would suffice…. but I’m a woman.
What do I know?

There’s also a good deal of shifting the husband’s crap we don’t need now, nor will we ever need again stuff from one place to another. Like the hurricane generator we bought in 1992 when we lived down south and haven’t used since.

Or the wheel weights for the tractor we no longer own.

Or the numerous tires for the cars we no longer own.

Or the table that went with the chairs we no longer own….

Right beside the small refrigerator I had no earthly idea we owned.
All of these things are heavy and filthy and must be moved over and over again because he can’t be convinced to throw them out.
Good times.

There was hammering.

And crowbar-ing …. and yes. A good deal of cursing because the structure is 45 years old and not exactly plumb.
There was also a good deal of displaced dirt.

Thanks to numerous woodchuck tunnels…

Which undermined our attempt to simply re-side and re-shingle the damned thing.

Now we have to completely dig up the hard packed floor and smooth it all out.

Doesn’t that sound like fun?
