Have you herd…?

.

Our backyard has been pretty busy of late.

.

.

And our resident herd of ten are showing up every night.

.

.

They don’t usually visit when it’s still light enough to grab photos, so this was a treat.

.

.

You can have television. I’ll happily sit and watch these beautiful creatures instead.

.

.

The harem master.

.

.

I’m so glad he made it through hunting season unscathed.

.

.

In case you’re wondering why they’re called White Tailed Deer.

😉

.

Maine traffic jam.

.

In Maine… you never what you’ll find around the next bend in the road.

.

.

Yesterday it was a rather large flock of wild turkeys.

.

.

Who were in absolutely no hurry to move out of my way.

.

.

Since the husband chases every one of their brethren who show up under our bird feeders out of the yard due to prodigious amounts of poo….

.

.

I was happy to stop and watch them amble by.

.

Winter visitors.

.

Our resident herd is back.

.

.

I hadn’t seen them in a while but they came tromping across the back yard looking for a snack early enough the other evening for me to grab a few pics.

.

.

There were 8 total. Does, youngsters…

.

.

And the harem master… who honestly, is a bit of an ass. No one else is allowed to eat until he’s had his share.

.

.

Except this brave little fellow…

.

.

❤️

.

Good winter morning!

.

There are a lot of reasons we love living in this house.

It’s in the fabulous state of Maine.

It’s in a small town in the country.

It’s surrounded by good neighbors, as well as horses, goats and chickens.

It has enough elbow room so we don’t have to see those neighbors unless we want to.

It has a steady parade of visiting wildlife.

But best of all?

We have perfect sunrises out the back windows and perfect sunsets out the front.

And when you wake up to this?

.

.

It’s hard to find fault with your world.

.

.

Good morning!

.

.

❤️

.

Some winter snaps.

.

I’m so glad winter finally showed up. Cold temps and snow! It warms my little menopausal heart, as well as cools off the rest of me.

.

.

There’s the husband shoveling a path to the bird feeders so our feathered friends don’t go hungry. He’s such a good egg.

.

.

We use this table as snow gauge. It piles up so perfectly, how could we not?

.

.

Once the snow caps these boxwood shrubs, the birds take cover underneath. It drives Lord Dudley Mountcatten insane.

.

.

Sunrise over the backyard reveals the deer superhighway.

.

.

We don’t have virgin fresh fallen snow for long.

.

.

❤️ 🦌 ❤️

.

News you can’t use.

.

Because the world is a ridiculous place.

.

.

This does not surprise me in the least.

.

.

Men have been obsessed with their one eyed trouser snake since the dawn of time, and now we have proof.

.

.

Why this particular fellow thought his penis would be an appropriate weapon against a charging leopard…. I’m sure I don’t know.

.

.

I can just hear the hippo now… “needs salt”.

.

.

And in case you’re in the mood to let the girls run free?

.

.

Get thee to Cape Cod and jump on a ferry.

.

.

Nantucket winters can be a bit brisk, so be careful you don’t take anyone’s eye out with a quick turn.

.

.

Now there’s something you don’t see everyday.

.

Walruses. They have no shame…

.

Residents of Scarborough, England were thrilled when a walrus decided to visit their town. The creatures rarely venture that far south and the 2,000 pound oddity became an instant tourist attraction. Families brought their children to see the colossal beast and even gave him an appropriate walrus name…. Thor.

What could go wrong?

.

.

Funny you should ask….

.

.

Onlookers apparently saw a lot more of Thor than they bargained for.

.

.

File that tidbit of trivia away for future use. You can thank me later.

.

A beautiful way to wake up.

.

We had a small amount of the white stuff last night and crazy as it sounds, it was the first to actually stick on the ground this winter.

In celebration of that I thought I would share a few glimpses out our windows this morning…. because sunrise over snow is pretty damned spectacular.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

After I posted a few of these to Facebook, I saw our farming neighbor had posted some as well. Here’s his shot, with our house and barn in the background.

.

.

De-Christmasing.

.

Since I hadn’t heavily decorated the inside of our house for the holidays in a few years… I’d forgotten what a time sucking nightmare it was to put everything away.

Three days after I started…

.

.

With help from Lord Dudley Mountcatten…. I was done.

.

.

And after buying a fresh cut ( I use that term loosely) tree from a roadside stand instead of cutting our own as we usually do, I’m seriously cursing needle drop again.

.

.

While I do love a real Christmas tree…

( Note the lack of snow and abundance of green grass in our yard. In Maine. In January! 😠 )

.

.

I do not love clogging up my vacuum with 20lbs of dry needle droppings. Though I have to admit, it does smell wonderful.

How about you?

Are you de-Christmased yet?

.

It’s official, I’ve seen everything now.

.

As you know, I do not camp. While I love spending time in the great outdoors… my idea of roughing it is a condo with one bathroom. That being said, I can’t honestly say I’ve given much thought to the logistics of answering the call of nature in the wild.

.

.

But clearly someone has.

.

.

Aren’t you glad I share these treasures?

.

.

The Crap Strap.

.

.

Can’t say this fellow looked too enthused, but then I wouldn’t want to be photographed in that position either.

.
