Ooh Babe-y.

.

I love baseball.

Growing up in New Jersey, I was raised a Yankee fan and if my father’s office didn’t have a visiting client, we had free use of the firm’s box seats. Lots of good memories for me at that old stadium.

We moved to Maine in 1978 but I stayed loyal to the Yankees for decades… which did not endear me to New Englanders believe me. But by the turn of the millennium I gave in and switched my allegiance to the Red Sox.

I was a Sox fan in 2004 through Schilling’s bloody sock in the ALCS and the long awaited curse breaking World Series win. Good times.

It took us 86 years to break the curse of the Bambino after we sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees in 1918. And growing up with that story from both sides, I always thought the Babe started his career with the Sox.

Turns out I was wrong.

He started with Baltimore.. and his rookie card is about to go up for auction.

.

.

I have a handful of baseball cards, nothing special … just a few players I like. And I’ve never paid more than $20 for any of them. But boy, I sure wish I’d stumbled across this one in a box at a yard sale.

.

.

My husband swears he had a Mickey Mantle rookie card as a kid. And he could have. The time frame would be right. But … are you ready?…. he says he put it in between the spokes of his bicycle tire to hear the nifty flapping noise.

$12.6 million.

Sigh.

🥴

.

Rain + barn = beer. And a woodchuck.

.

When it’s a wet and rainy afternoon you’re apt to find us in the man cave/Barn Mahal.

Sometimes alcohol is present.

.

.

I’m blaming the Jack Abbeys blood orange wheat for that Scrabble tile arrangement.

.

.

Red Sox game? Check.

Pizza? Check.

.

.

Sweet Thai chili wings and more beer?

Double check.

Life is good.

.

.

Looking out the window back at the garage, we saw a baby chuck perched on the woodshed’s extra room doorstep.

.

.

They’ve completely taken over this little storage area and have dug such a big tunnel the door neither opens nor shuts. Good thing there’s nothing in there we need to retrieve…

.

Everyone loves the Red Sox.

.

We live in Maine, ergo we watch (and love) the Red Sox.

But it seems like we’re not the only species to do so.

.

.

This was the scene at a recent game. And in typical nothing bothers New Englanders fashion, play continued even though a pair of mallard ducks had landed right in the middle of Fenway Park.

.

.

Being Boston fowl, they made themselves at home in the outfield, munching grass and doing what ducks are apt to do.

Poop.

.

.

But hey, the Sox won the game… so no one was complaining.

.

News you can’t use.

.

Because I prefer news that makes me laugh.

.

.

This would be my husband’s dream come true… and might very well happen to whoever buys our house when I’m a widow.

.

.

Is this a thing? Damn. I’ve been missing out on extra income for decades.

.

.

This photo makes me realize my beloved Boston Red Sox are slackers who’ve just been phoning it in.

.

.

Joseph Yoon can bite me.

.

Random nonsense around the house…

.

It’s a shame chokecherries are bitter and nearly impossible to eat…

.

.

Because our tree is just loaded with them this year.

.

.

But speaking of eating…. when your neighbors start dumping tons of veggies on your doorstep because no one ever grows a few zucchini? Try this:

.

.

Slice, dip in beaten egg, then Italian breadcrumbs, lightly fry in olive oil and serve with lemon herb aioli. Fabulous!

.

.

In other news, the turkeys are still here and my husband is still chasing them.

.

.

I’m laughing because he was about to lose his pants running after them. (Don’t tell him I posted this, I’d never hear the end of it.) And while I normally think the daily chasing is ridiculous as well as fruitless…. you’re not going to out stubborn a wild turkey …. those little bastards have eaten every single one of our blueberries this year. On all 7 bushes! And that means no blueberry pie, no blueberry coffee cake, no pancakes or muffins. Damn their feathered souls!

😡

.

.

I watched the White Sox beat the Yankees on the Field of Dreams the other night. (That’s Kevin Costner in the photo.) I’m an unapologetic sucker for that movie. Never been able to watch it without thinking of my father and crying like a baby.

If I’m ever in Iowa? I am damn sure going to Dyersville and walking through that corn.

.

A spring resurgence.

.

This time of year brings the return of warmer temperatures, green grass and two of my favorite things.

They’re baaaaack!

.

.

Well, at least one of them is. Our first returning woodchuck has made an appearance in the back yard. Let the games begin.

.

.

And speaking of games….

.

.

Red Sox baseball is back and available for viewing in the newly used to be a barn filled with crap remodeled man cave.

.

.

Yes, watching my favorite team at my beloved Fenway Park while perched at our private bar sipping a cocktail is the very definition of sweet.

.

.

The first few games? Not so much. Pitching will be a problem this year and getting swept by the Orioles on our home turf was depressing to say the least. But we whooped Florida and swept Baltimore in their home park. Life is good.

😉

.

Barn, Belgian beer and Brussel sprouts.

.

We were back in the barn this weekend and ran the new heat pump for the first time. It’s a big space so it took a while to warm up… but the building held the set temperature all day, which means all our stuff and seal each and every god damn gap insulation work…

Worked.

.

.

But there were still a few more windows to trim and that’s when things went downhill.

There was sputtering, mumbling, cursing and okay…. small pieces of wood may or may not have been flung across the room.

.

.

When the wood started flying? I knew it was time for a distraction… so I trudged down to our crap filled underground nightmare basement and retrieved a treasure we purchased a few years ago.

.

.

A neon bar sign from the Ommegang brewery in New York. We stumbled on them when we visited the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and fell in love with their Belgians.

.

If you’re ever in the area, check out their tasting room in the old barn… and if you’re visiting this time of year? Try my favorite.

There’s a tavern in Brussels famous for it’s pigeon racing?

Sounds like my kind of place.

And speaking of Brussels…

When you live across the street from an organic vegetable farmer?

You never know what will show up on your doorstep in the morning.

👍

I bet you didn’t know….

A woodpecker pecks wood 12,000 times a day.

But I did, because…
