Everyone wants a seat at the table.

IMG_2638

This little female Baltimore Oriole for example.

IMG_2639

She sat there for 15 minutes or so…..

IMG_2640

Waiting in vane for dinner to be served.

IMG_2643

Then there’s my  sworn enemy  little  rat bastard  red squirrel.

IMG_2658

We may have evicted them from their corner post home…..

IMG_2655

But it hasn’t stopped their daily visits.

IMG_2644

And raids on the deer bound apple slices.

Turn your back if you want you pesky varmint…. we both know what you’re up to.

Random critters.

I was finally able to grab a few pictures of our resident buck.

IMG_2441

Which is getting harder to do as the summer wears on.

IMG_2430

But this father son shot was pretty sweet.

IMG_2474

Junior’s antlers are growing.

IMG_2476

And it always makes me wonder what the felt feels like.

IMG_2519

Naturally there are woodchuck photos.

IMG_2603

And some close ups.

IMG_2606

We have one lone chipmunk this year.

IMG_2583

And yes, those pesky red squirrel babies are still here.

IMG_2579

Using our deck railing as a cafeteria.

IMG_2580

As well as a toilet.

IMG_2581

Yes, I’m talking to you.

Clearly your mother didn’t tell you not to shit where you eat.

Bad form. Very bad…..

Woodchucks vs starlings.

What’s a baby woodchuck to do?

IMG_2324

All he wants to do is peacefully munch the bounty thoughtfully provided by that crazy woman in the house.

IMG_2447

It’s bad enough his pesky brother shows up….

IMG_2451

But then that pesky bird tries to steal his blueberries.

IMG_2449

And before you know it…..

IMG_2456

The bird calls in reinforcements.

IMG_2457

And things go downhill fast.

IMG_2448

What’s a woodchuck to do?

Another woodchuck dump.

Of photos.

But after the post I did the other day, I don’t blame you for wondering.

IMG_2197

Babies have grown up.

IMG_2190

And venture out daily. Three in the above picture.

IMG_2237

They are also getting fat.

IMG_2276

Though I can’t imagine why.

IMG_2284

I’m sad to say I saw a fox run off with one in it’s mouth last week.

IMG_2209

And though momma chuck does her best, nature will occasionally have her way.

IMG_2235

She started with 6 children, went down to 4…. and now it’s 3.

IMG_2253

Quadruplets are now triplets.

But they’re still fun to watch….

IMG_2258

I’m still trying to make friends…

IMG_4318

And Momma still needs a good support bra.

IMG_2302

My favorite kind of sale!

When the local nursery has a half price and buy one get one free sale in July?

IMG_4808

You fill the back of your car.

IMG_4810

Find room for some in an already full bed.

IMG_4768

And replant the pots that your resident woodchucks munched to stalks.

IMG_4424

Hopefully with flowers they don’t like.

IMG_4871

And when the nursery extends the sale to the end of the month?

You go back again.

IMG_4870

And cram even more flowers in a bed that’s already full just because you can.

IMG_4874

While a red squirrel watches.

When you’re done?

You sit back on the barn porch and enjoy an adult beverage before dinner.

IMG_4862

And watch the old doe walk up to have a snack.

IMG_4866

Life is good.

Because it made me laugh.

So for the past few weeks the half dead mallows that the woodchucks munched to nubs have been soaking up Miracle Grow and sun on my deck table.

They’re coming along, but it’s slow going.

Completely out of reach of little mouths and teeth, they might have a chance.

So when I looked out the window the other day and saw momma woodchuck sniffing around the deck….

IMG_4824

Eyeing the plants and poised for action….

IMG_4822

I had to laugh.

IMG_4823

Stretch all you want.

IMG_4821

You and your buck teeth can’t reach them!

Neener, neener.

Squirrel invasion.

They’re back.

IMG_2320

And they’re everywhere.

IMG_4675

Momma red squirrel and her babies.

IMG_4677

They’ve grown and are venturing out.

IMG_4770

The new wider deck railing is a favorite spot for eating snacks. And while it’s cute, there’s a problem.

IMG_4842

Or should I say multiple little problems. Squirrel poo is now dotting the landscape where we enjoy adult beverages.

IMG_4674

And this is a new favorite perch.

IMG_2542

I did laugh the other day when one of them climbed on the bracket and saw what he thought was a tasty glob of food.

IMG_2541

Only to taste it and discover it was Vaseline to keep the ants off the hummingbird feeder.

IMG_2543

Take that you tiny poop factory!

It’s almost unbearable.

My little town’s FB page has been lighting up with some interesting sightings lately.

One woman kept posting but no one believed her.

Well….

I’d say that’s pretty definitive proof.

To be honest I’m surprised we’ve never had this issue. We’ve seen evidence of Yogi in our backyard and woods. (and even on the deck one winter. Yikes!)  But he’s never raided our feeders, for which I’m grateful.

They’re lovely creatures, but quite destructive.

The sightings continue…. which prompted this latest post.

IMG_4838

I’m down with that.

Hi Waldo!
