It’s a large thing.

And I have no idea how the thing got here.

I didn’t plant the thing, but maybe a woodchuck did.

The thing has started to lean…

And bloom.

Does anyone know what this thing is?

But there’s a woodchuck right behind you.

The deer was oblivious for quite a while.

But when she finally did realize it….

The interspecies communication did not go well.

Chuck – 1.
Deer – 0.
They’re baaaaaaack.
Well, at least the babies are.

And they’re making themselves right at home on the deck.

A little too much at home for my liking.

Because they’re trying to get back into the hole they all came tumbling out of last month.
Cute? Yes.
Respectful house guests? No.

And then the other day, a friend helped me out.

No, it’s not the same picture.
Look in the lower right hand corner….
Baby woodchuck is finally earning his keep.
Well done sir.
Carry on.
I don’t care how cute you are….

You can’t come in!

Well… maybe if the husband wasn’t home.

The baby woodchucks are everywhere.
Behind the barn, in the rock wall, on the porch, under the deck.
Which means….

They’re going to be saturating my blog for a while.

Because really….

If there’s anything cuter than a mini woodchuck eating apples?
I don’t know if I’d survive it.

First there were two in back of the big barn.

Then three.

Then four.
Then five little scampers!

No wonder momma chucker needs a support bra.
So.

Our resident woodchuck….

Who we (ever so creatively) call Mr. Chuck?

Yeah.

We may need to rethink that.

Can someone please call Jane Russell?

Because momma woodchuck is in serious need of a few eighteen hour bras.

Squirrels have to be brave to cross the wide treeless open that is the bird feeder area of our backyard.

So we rarely see more than one grey.

Until there’s something worth having that is.

These little sparrows adore the boxwood shrubs.

And the woodchuck?
Still feeding, still fat…

And now?
Winking and waving as well.
This last pic looks like a little inter species communication is happening.

Although aside from the deer saying “Please don’t poop on me.” I’m not sure what they have to talk about.
Alright, that’s a lie.
It’s just me snapping shots from the window. But that’s not a snappy title… so get over it.

Our fox is coming every night now.

And sometimes he/she brings a friend.

They’re such beautiful creatures.

And wonderful at keeping the mouse population under control.

As you can see from the bird feeders, it’s Baltimore Oriole time.

They’re gorgeous, but quick.

And catching a good shot is rare.

We put out oranges and grape jelly, which they adore.

Of course, so does everyone else.
A raccoon comes in at midnight and strips the jelly…

And this hairy woodpecker makes short work of the oranges.

Our resident chucker is still here.

Enjoying apples.

And salad scraps.
Life is good in my little corner of the world.
Our resident chucker was a bit ticked off the other day.

He was out back in the sun, enjoying a few apples…

Happily posing for pictures….
And an hour later?
Bam!

One cold woodchuck.

We had a squall move in from out of nowhere.

And I’m sure he was rethinking the decision to come out of hibernation.

No, he wasn’t happy.

With the snow…. or me.
