More beauty is in the eye of the beholder adoptees.

.

The World Wildlife Fund’s symbolic adoption continues.

.

.

Cute candidates abound but you know this fellow will be left out in the cold.

.

.

No one will want to cuddle up with him on the couch. That dude needs a serious manicure.

.

.

Honey Badgers get a bad rap and sure, they’ve been known to viciously kill humans… but I’d still rather adopt one of them than Honey Boo Boo.

.

.

Most people find condors to be ugly birds, but come on…. he’s rocking that feather boa. It’s not an easy look to pull off.

.

.

And finally there’s the wombat, a much maligned creature. Sure he poops square cubes and has a two pronged penis….. but hey, none of us is perfect.

.

Oh sure, everyone wants to adopt puppies and kittens.

.

The World Wildlife Fund is currently running a fundraiser in which you “adopt” an animal. I think you receive a stuffed version and some other cutesy little stuff but that’s not what I’m blogging about.

.

.

So sure, everyone wants to adopt a koala. Their cuddle quotient is off the charts and they’re freakin’ adorable.

But really… who wants to adopt a bat?

.

.

And a blood sucking bat at that.

Another tough sell?

.

.

While I find devils rather sweet, prevailing wisdom says no.

.

.

Whale shark? Their mouths are four feet wide and they eat 50 lbs a day. That’s almost as much as a teenage boy.

Something tells me these guys are going to be at the orphanage for a very long time.

.

Meet Dudley.

.

Lord Dudley Mountcatten to be precise.

.

.

Our new little guy still goes under the bed and shies away from loud noises…

.

.

But when he’s out and about he’s a sweetie. And a bit of a goofball.

.

.

With enough of the typical you were put on this planet to serve me cattitude to warrant his name.

.

.

One minute he’s a cuddle bug, the next he runs away when we walk in the room. I have a feeling this little guy saw some trauma along the way. Patience will be required.

Weed is the answer.

.

The question – How do you get your new adopted kitty to relax?

The answer – Weed. Or as close to chronic as our 4 legged furry friends can get.

.

.

Five days in – the recent addition to the family had been slowly acclimating to our house and routines… but he was still running under the bed or behind the couch every time we made noise.

Enter the catnip pouch.

I should have thought of this sooner… because now?

.

.

We have one very chill feline.

.

.

We’re gaining.

.

Two full days in and we managed to get the new kitty out from under the china hutch.

.

.

Granted it was just to under the coffee table, but that’s progress.

.

.

I don’t think he was thrilled to have a close up portrait taken, but I’ve got news for him. You can’t be camera shy and live in this house. Momma’s got a blog to write.

.

.

At the end of the third day he made it out into the open.

.

.

And he really is a love bug once he feels comfortable.

I think it’s going to be a good fit, he just needs a little time.

.

Because even turkeys get cold.

Our local feed store is a delightfully quirky place.

Owned and operated by a wonderful man who shares our love of critters, I always look forward to shopping there.

Case in point….

When a turkey chick failed to sell last year because it had a deformity of it’s wing? He adopted it.

The bird is now large, spoiled silly and something of a feed store mascot.

When the temperature drops to near freezing?

She comes inside and stays by the wood stove…

Because even turkey birds get cold.

Please note there are two chickens under the table as well.

I love my town!!
