But… but… the cocktails!

.

I think we’ve previously established I love the newly discovered Blind Pig.

.

.

Their cocktail list can not be beat and I’m trying my damnedest to work my way through it before the fall rewrite.

.

.

Pear mojito? Sorry… I drank it too quickly to get a photo.

.

.

Candy apple margarita? Yes please.

But then it happened.

.

.

My spinach artichoke dip? Dry and tasteless.

.

.

The husband’s riblet appetizer? Tough, fatty and bland.

.

.

Even the comical shirt worn by this waitress couldn’t take the sting out of bad food.

.

.

My lemon pepper baked haddock was nice, though the addition of squash chunks in the risotto left a lot to be desired.

But my husband has never been thrilled with this establishment’s menu, and I fear the era of his making do because I love the cocktails has reached its conclusion .

.

.

This tomato bisque was the last straw. It had smokey bacon and some weird spice mixture that totally turned my other half off. I knew it was coming, but when he said he wasn’t in any hurry to return?

Oh! The horror!

.

.

I slowly savored one last blackberry bramble and silently prayed I could change his mind.

.

Food and fashion are a bad mix.

.

Some things naturally go together. Cookies and milk? Of course. Macaroni and cheese? You know it. Gin and tonic? I’ll bring the limes, cheers!

But fast food and shoes?

No.

.

.

Clearly Madison Avenue was on a 6 martini lunch that day.

.

.

And if that’s not stupid enough?

.

.

Crocs – Ugliest. Shoe. Ever.

And I live in Maine, home of the L.L. Bean boot.

.

.

KFC Crocs?

For the love of God, why.

.

And OMG, the food!

.

Yes, the beer and atmosphere at Ebenezer’s were fun… as witnessed by this quirky piece of art hanging over our table.

.

.

But clearly that poor creature never sampled the menu. No one could go away hungry here.

.

.

Second green Belgian beer on board, we ordered appetizers .

.

.

I didn’t go with the real R.I. shit, but the coconut shrimp were divine.

.

.

The husband’s usual French onion soup was anything but with a plethora of cheesy bread and rich deep broth.

.

.

Second beer gone, I switched over to a frozen strawberry margarita bursting with fresh fruit.

.

.

And eyed the probably quite appropriate ladies room sign.

.

.

Our meal? It was spectacular.

.

.

Two perfectly cooked juicy herb marinated chicken breasts with roasted vegetables made my mouth sing. And the small bowl on the top left? Not a roll, but a potato croquette with gravy. Weird, but delightful.

The large salad came with my husband’s choice…

.

.

Pan seared scallops and lobster over sherried buttered cream corn. In a word? Fabulous.

No, you don’t want to know what the bill totaled. Suffice it to say my wallet screamed… and as much as I loved our experience, I have to admit it’s a good thing we don’t live closer. Temptation could bankrupt us quickly.

.

Random tidbits.

.

We’ve had some much needed, glorious rain lately and though another leak has sprung in the continuing nightmare that is our roof…. don’t ask, I’m too disgusted to talk about it ….. our once brown lawn is green again.

.

.

With just a hint of leaves starting to turn in the background.

.

.

I’m wondering how vibrant the autumn show will be this year due to the long summer drought. Fingers are crossed.

.

.

So true I had to share.

.

.

Asparamancer?

It’s official, I’ve heard everything now.

.

Let’s play.

.

It won’t strain your brain, I promise.

.

.

I love how’s there’s nothing unequivocal here. When, not if. Yay for me.

What will I never stop eating?

I won’t say burgers…. because there will always be wagyu beef.

I won’t say pizza… because there will always be artisanal pies with truffles.

So I’ll go with one of my guilty, rarely admitted pleasures.

.

.

I confess, I’m all about the San Francisco treat. When the husband is away or eating elsewhere? I’ve been known to simmer up a package and eat the whole thing in one sitting.

But I do add freshly steamed broccoli, I’m not a heathen.

How about you… What aren’t you giving up after your bank account expands?

Damariscotta Lake

.

We ducked into Damariscotta Lake State Park recently for a quick picnic lunch. It was on the way to the motorcycle repair shop and we were hungry.

.

.

Take out Italians always taste better by a body of water.

.

.

Being after Labor Day we had the place pretty much to ourselves which was sweet.

.

.

Bye bye tourists.

.

.

I know we need your money, but it really is much nicer without you.

.

.

Things Facebook thinks I need.

.

I’m a woman.

I love jewelry.

These statements are accurate. So while Facebook’s purchase suggestion was correct in theory, it was a tad off when it came to style.

.

.

And when it came to shoes ?

.

.

While I did appreciate the bottle opener feature, I tend to draw the line at astroturf footwear.

.

.

Hmm… I didn’t know I wanted this either.

.

.

But now I kind of do….

.

Neighbors, past and present.

.

A local resident posted these photos, (which were actually postcards from 1933) of our neighbor’s house on our town’s FB page recently.

.

.

It’s a beautiful old home which was once a rose garden farm.

.

.

That must have been something to see. Can you imagine living next door to acres of roses? The scent would be heavenly.

Less fragrant but no less impressive? Our current neighbor’s vegetable farm across the street.

.

.

There’s a long tradition of growing in my little part of the world.

👍

.

Let’s just drink.

.

One of our favorite restaurants has been letting us down lately.

.

.

And while the cocktails and atmosphere are still wonderful ( fresh blueberry mojito, yum!) the quality of the food has been going downhill. Garlic Parmesan wings? Dry and tasteless.

.

.

Pricey pan seared scallops on risotto? Over cooked seafood on a soggy bed of mush.

.

.

Burgundy braised short ribs? Chewy shoe leather. It all looked good, but wasn’t. So we’ve decided one of our favorite dinner restaurants will now just be one of our favorite watering holes.

.

.

Cucumber and elderflower cooler? Yeah, I’m not giving that up.

And the regular bar crowd is a hoot.

Mr. I Drink My Jameson With A Cover and A Straw In Case I Spill was back, and you have to appreciate a man who knows his limitations.
