The great goat escape.

.

Livestock run amok in my town…. as witnessed by a flurry of recent Facebook postings.

.

.

Poor goat, he’s just lonesome.

.

.

Goat tracking is a wonderful thing.

.

.

Uh oh, now the law is involved.

.

.

Apparently this isn’t a first for local law enforcement.

.

.

Pie rewards. Ya gotta love it.

.

.

Benny Hill music would be the perfect accompaniment to guard rail hopping goats.

.

.

When your community is requesting goats in heat? You know things are about to get real.

.

.

Goat Busters. Where do I sign up?

.

.

Goats in tutus? Yes, please.

.

.

If the goat shows up at our backyard buffet, I shall report back.

.

Well… time told.

.

And I don’t like what it had to say.

.

.

Not one damn bit.

Sadly after all the roofing repairs my husband and his friends did the other day… nothing changed.

It’s still leaking.

.

.

So we went back up in the attic and realized the wood and shingles they replaced the other day probably weren’t high enough up on the roof.

.

.

So now our ceiling looks even worse.

.

.

And though he thinks he knows where to make the next repair?

.

.

It was on the day our first N’or Easter started blowing in… so I doubt it will be anytime soon.

.

.

Backyard wildlife, homicide division.

.

Mother and Bambi are chowing down regularly and trying to lay on extra winter pounds.

.

.

But sadly I was right about the blue eyes fading. Once this little one grows up we won’t be able to distinguish him/her so easily.

.

IMG_3602

.

But look who’s made our backyard his new hunting ground….

.

IMG_3615

.

A juvenile Coopers Hawk.

He perches on the bird feeder pole and waits patiently for lunch to drop in.

.

IMG_3650

.

I got excited when I saw this:

.

IMG_3580

.

And was seriously hoping mother red squirrel had met her doom…

.

IMG_3581

.

But unfortunately it was a dove.

.

IMG_3582

.

Better luck next time guy.

.

Why does he make everything twice as difficult as it has to be?

.

We have a barn that really isn’t a barn. What started out as storage space for motorcycles and lawn mowers has morphed into a custom built man cave… and now that the man cave has a heat pump? The upstairs has to be temporarily blocked off for winter before the staircase turns into a chimney.

This should have been a simple project.

I told the husband – cut a piece of insulation foam. The heat pump installer told the husband – cut a piece of insulation foam. The friend that helps him now and then told the husband – cut a piece of insulation foam.

.

.

Which is why the husband made a hinged door out of zip siding.

.

.

Did I mention the husband doesn’t like to be told what to do?

After a laborious day of cursing and figuring and adjusting and fitting and more cursing….

.

.

The husband came home to cut a piece of insulation foam.

.

.

Which he wanted to attach to that hinged door of zip siding.

.

.

This involved more measuring and cutting ..

.

.

And fitting and pushing and removing and more measuring and cutting.

.

.

Please note the non OSHA approved chunk of wood dismantling the saw’s safety feature.

More fitting.

.

.

More measuring and cutting.

.

.

More fitting.

.

.

Halfway through the process, Mike Pence stopped by to say hello.

.

.

And finally after I helped him measure, cut and fit for 3 hours to no avail… I snuck out.

.

.

For the sake of my sanity…. as well as our marriage.

.

One pregnancy too many.

.

I fear for our old, always pregnant, doe.

She had a very late fawn this year and I think it’s taken it’s toll.

.

IMG_3270

.

We’ve watch her age and slow down over the past few years, but now?

.

IMG_3274

.

The poor girl is skeletal.

.

IMG_3272

.

She comes every night for grain and apples, and is now showing up during the day for lunch…. which yes, I provide. She literally just stands there, looking in the window and waiting to be served. How can I not?

.

IMG_3278

.

But I think this last Bambi was just too much for her, and I doubt she’ll survive the winter.

.

IMG_3279

.

Hopefully blue eyes will continue us to visit after she’s gone.

Life goes on….

.

Random wildlife shots.

Because it’s time to clear out the photo files again.

IMG_2867

Momma chuck has been packing on the pounds with an eye toward winter..

IMG_2869

But it doesn’t stop her from scrambling up and over the rock wall quicker than I can move my shutter finger.

IMG_2845

I have a feeling at least one of her two remaining offspring will be sticking around when the snow flies.

IMG_2838

I keep catching him rooting around under the daylilies, filling his mouth with dead leaves and making off for parts unknown with nesting material.

IMG_2852

Last year’s fawn comes every night, and since his new antlers are decidedly unbranched, I’ve taken to calling him the antenna buck. Because I’m old… and remember when you had to wiggle those things every afternoon to watch Dark Shadows.

IMG_2841

Though these next two pics were at the outermost limit of my zoom, I’m including them because we rarely see momma turkey and her young.

IMG_2842

She raises them in the woods and neighboring meadows, never crossing our large expanse of open lawn.

IMG_2929

And finally, a few Bambi shots.

IMG_2931

Because they’re so damned sweet, I can’t help it.

IMG_2925

Have you ever watched a deer go apple picking?

Well now you can.

We had a lot of visitors this past winter.

IMG_2563

These are pictures from back in January because I’m still playing catch up from the vacation posts.

IMG_2566

Our buck kept his rack a lot longer than usual.

IMG_2581

But it didn’t stop him from apple picking.

Or sticking his tongue out at the photographer.

IMG_2571

Cheeky little bugger.

IMG_2564

Father and son…

IMG_2572

Or daughter, it’s hard to tell at this stage.
