Bonk… part 6.

.

Same book about sex, same warning applies. Tender hearted readers take note.. it’s about to get weird.

First up in today’s excerpts are tales from the factory floor.

.

.

Being a porn star isn’t limited to (and I use this term loosely) acting in films. Apparently you can make money recreating and selling your penetrable parts. Who knew?

.

.

Wise choice Maria. No need to make daddy feel inferior.

Leaving the body part factory, we get a history lesson in contraceptives.

.

.

I suppose a cat liver ankle might dissuade the foot fetish suitors.

.

.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve met many a woman with a furious womb.

.

.

Is it any wonder the womb is furious? Geesh. No one wants to be compared to a badger.

.

A good movie and a disappointing meal.

.

Getting my husband to a movie theater is a rarity these days. While I’d be happy to see a weekly film on the big screen my other half complains about the concession prices, the endless pre show commercials and God forbid he doesn’t get to sit in the back row. But last night I convinced him.

.

.

And we saw what might turn out to be the largest grossing movie of all time. I’m not a huge Tom Cruise fan, but if you liked Top Gun you’ll love the sequel. The fighter jet aerial sequences are stunning and the movie does a nice job paying homage to the original. Val Kilmer makes a poignant appearance and the story line of Goose’s resentful son is well played. Granted the new beach football isn’t as good as the volleyball scene from decades past… but not much is. Overall Maverick brings it and even my theater cranky spouse was glad he went.

.

.

Sadly we couldn’t say the same for J. R. Maxwells, the restaurant in Bath where we had dinner afterwards.

.

.

I admit their cocktails were potent AF, one Cosmo and one margarita about did me in.

A loaf of homemade bread was a nice way to start.

.

.

But it went downhill from there.

.

.

My minuscule cup of clam chowder contained roughly 4 spoonfuls and my husband’s French Onion soup was weak and flavorless.

.

.

The salad I didn’t photograph had some decent blue cheese dressing but the pan seared scallop carbonara that sounded wonderful turned out to be an anemic platter of bland goop. I often wonder if we’re too critical when it comes to eating out. We’ve added this place to our won’t ever return list… and that list is getting longer by the day.

.

If you only do one thing when you visit southern Maine…

.

Make sure it’s the Ogunquit Cliff Walk. There’s no better way to leisurely experience the Maine coast and you’ll get some exercise to boot. A definite win win.

.

.

The 1.25 mile walk starts alongside a waterfront hotel with pristine fencing and gardens.

.

.

Turn the corner, and the Atlantic Ocean beckons.

.

.

Maine isn’t known for large resorts, we’re more of a bed and breakfast state, but the Anchorage By the Sea is well named.

You can’t get much closer to the ocean than that.

.

.

Most of Maine’s beaches are rocky, but Wells… the neighboring town… has plenty of sand.

The Cliff Walk is fully paved and easy to traverse…. and did I mention there are rocks?

.

.

When you marry a billy goat like my husband, rocks are never left unexplored.

.

.

I can’t say enough good things about the beauty of this place and it’s hardly a surprise Ogunquit was an artist colony at the turn of the 20th century.

.

.

Nature is a wonderous thing…. but sometimes she struggles to survive.

.

.

Shame we need to be reminded of that…

.

.

There are numerous memorial benches scattered here and there along the path…

.

.

Perfect spots for quiet reflection and contemplation.

To be continued…

.

News you can’t use.

.

Because I live for odd headlines.

.

.

If they’re anything like Twinkies, I’m sure they still tasted fine.

.

.

Yes, in 1945 American GI’s liberated a little girl’s birthday cake along with Italy. She looks quite happy now, so I guess what they say is true… it’s never too late for cake.

.

.

While we welcome all wild visitors for a nosh at Casa River … this makes me glad I don’t live in Florida.

.

.

Is this really a gift? I’m going with no.

.

What’s blooming?

.

I love this time of year in Maine. It’s warm but not hot, we have ample rain and things are blooming everywhere you look.

.

.

Pansies are always the first things I plant in pots. They’re frost tolerant and because that can still happen at the end of May here … they’re a safe bet.

.

.

Lilacs!

.

.

We have two massive bushes that reach for the sky… taller than our roof. It’s fabulous!

.

.

One white, one dark purple. I wish WordPress had Smell o Vision…. because trust me peeps, it is seriously fragrant up in here.

.

.

I planted my annual marigold rotation in front of the mini barn last week.

.

.

And some color coordinated geraniums next to the bulkhead doors.

.

Blowing and sucking.

.

There was a little of both at Chez River recently… but not the kind you might think.

.

.

The blowing was in the form of a new window air conditioner we bought to replace our previous old as dirt unit. $500 and a broken back later it was installed and ready for summer. Someday someone will explain to me why these things have to weigh as much as an African elephant.

While this new a/c is more powerful and quieter than the last, I admit I was not happy with the left handed cord placement. I’m an inveterate cord hider and this monster is one inch too short to plug behind the antique radio to the left and two inches too short to swing around the corner behind the arm chair on the right … so this is the horror I must live with for the next few months.

.

.

Sigh.

.

.

Even Lord Dudley disapproves.

As for the sucking…

.

.

Yesterday morning heralded the arrival of the poop truck.

.

.

And it’s extremely long, highly suspect caca hose.

.

.

The less said about this process the better.
