All present and accounted for.

.

It’s turkey season.

.

IMG_3396

.

And that doesn’t bode well for our fine feathered visitors.

.

.

Momma brought her seven babies for their first nosh under the bird feeders a few months ago…

.

IMG_3408

.

And they’re all still with her.

.

IMG_3412

.

You go momma.

.

IMG_3423

.

They’re comical birds to watch.

.

IMG_3424

.

Like big brown chickens who gobble instead of cluck.

.

IMG_3419

.

Though her babies are almost full grown, momma is still vigilant…

.

IMG_3426

.

And takes off at the slightest perceived threat.

.

Picture of pretty backyard trees included… just because I can.

.

CSA, chili and our local pub.

.

Our weekly CDA is winding down for the year, but the harvest is still plentiful.

.

.

Peppers, turnip, ginger, Korean melon, spinach, salad greens, kohlrabi, radishes, chard, celery, dill and yes. Some awful version of kale.

Our weather has started to change and we’re feeling some delightfully brisk and crisp air. When that happens?

.

.

It’s time for a big pot of homemade chili. And a trip to our local pub.. at an off hour when no one is there. Perfect.

.

.

On the menu? Duck wings with sweet Thai chili sauce.

.

.

Tis the season.

.

.

And thanks in part to my suggestion… okay my endless badgering, whatever!… the owner has agreed to run weekly cocktail specials. He even bought a lovely coffee table book of choices for me to peruse.

.

.

Keep the customers happy.

And the really good customers like me? Keep them soused, they complain less that way.

.

I’m ready to cry Uncle.

.

First it was not at all temporary temporary doors. Then insulation and a ceiling and new light fixtures and floor moulding and quarter round.

Now?

.

.

The husband is installing strapping to cover the plywood ceiling seams.

.

.

Technically this is finish work. And we all know that is not where his talents lie.

.

.

Was the strapping straight?

.

.

Not so much.

.

.

Of course when I helpfully pointed that out, I got booted from the barn/man cave/Maine Taj Mahal.

.

.

When I went back 2 hours later? He informed me the strapping wasn’t right and needed to be redone.

.

.

Hmm. Why didn’t I think of that?

.

.

Cutting and more cutting.

.

.

Cutting around the light fixtures I tried to tell him to center 2 weeks ago.

.

.

But all the cutting resulted in straighter lines.

.

.

Aggravating? No doubt.

But…

.

.

We did have gorgeous fall foliage in the background so I’ll call it a win.

.

Natural beauty.

.

Have you ever noticed how quickly sunsets change?

.

IMG_3188

.

I see a pretty one out the window…

.

IMG_3189

.

And by the time I grab my camera it’s almost over. Rather like life….

.

IMG_3190

.

Fall came early this year.

.

IMG_3301

.

And while I do love the colors, peak foliage came too soon.

.

IMG_3302

.

What was supposed to pop in October, popped in September.

.

.

And as much as I’m ready for this year to be over, this is one part I wish would last a little longer.

.

Risking life and limb for my blog.

.

Never let it be said I don’t put myself in harm’s way for my loyal readers.

.

.

Yes, I drove home from the store one handed the other day just so I could share a few shots of our beautiful fall foliage in Maine.

.

.

We had a very hot dry summer…

.

.

So the leaves aren’t as vibrant as they could be.

.

.

But it’s still a pretty sweet show.

.

.

Minus the spots and streaks on my dirty windshield that is.

.

.

No small animals were killed while I swerved left for that burning bush…

.

.

And swerved right for that perfect sugar maple.

.

.

Good thing we don’t get much traffic on our road.

.

.

Or police cruisers.

.

.

Ah, autumn in New England.

.

.

If you’ve never experienced it….

.

.

What are you waiting for?
