I admit I never gave the mongoose much thought before I read this article.
.

.
But now?
.

.
The ladies have earned my respect.
.

.
You go girl!

Have you heard of Joel Sartore?
.

.
Arctic Fox.
If not, let me rectify that.
.
.

.
Tiger Striped Tree Frog.
Joel has made it his mission in life to photograph the approximately 12,000 species living in zoos and wildlife sanctuaries.
.

.
Brown Throated Sloth.
But Joel’s photographs are different.
.

.
Springbok Mantis.
They’re special.
.

.
Mandrill.
Because they’re portraits.
.

.
Spectacled Eiders.
Stunning portraits of glorious diversity.
.

.
California Sea Lion.
Joel believes if we see these marvelous creatures… we’ll feel something.
.

.
Andean Condor.
We’ll care.
.

.
Sumatran Rhinoceros.
And if we care, we’ll fight to preserve not only them, but the habitats they need to thrive.
.

.
DeBrazza’s Monkey.
Joel is my hero. And I’ve bought all 3 of his incredible books.
.

.
As I make my way through them, I’m going to share some of his work.
Because they make me feel.
Because they make me care.
Not all of the animals are beautiful.
.

.
Common Warthog.
But all of them are perfect… and worth protecting.
.
.
I came home from the store the other day and stepped up on our kitchen landing.
.

.
Which is when I saw it.
Do you see it?
.

.
Let me give you a hint…
.

.
We hadn’t seen the little red bastards for a while, but it was right there.
.

.
A stolen apple wedge. Prominently placed where I couldn’t help but see it.
.

.
That bitch is taunting me now.
.
.
Foxes.
.

.
Our pair has been absent of late, but now they’re back.
.

.
Turkeys.
They’ve discovered the deer grain bowl and make short work of it.
.

.
Riveting turkey video for your viewing pleasure.
.
.
Blue eyed Bambi and mom.
.

.
I hate to say it…
.

.
But I think his/her eyes are starting to turn brown.
.

.
I read that could happen.
.

.
But was hoping he/she would hold on to them a little longer.
.
.
It’s now officially hunting season.
.

.
So as much as I love seeing our big buck…
.

.
Part of me wishes he would just stay deep under cover.
.

.
Thankfully all our immediate neighbors post no hunting signs like we do.
.

.
So at least our herd has a safe refuge here.
.

.
Stay alert big guy.
.

.
And just come out on Sunday.
.
.
While I’m all for pampering and spoiling our pets..
.

.
No.
.

.
Just, no.
.

.
Bowzer’s manicure should not look better than mine… and look, even the dog hates it.
.

.

.
I want to know who looked at their cat’s ass one afternoon and thought, ” Hey, that will make a great coloring book”.
.

.
Mr. Whiskers is not amused.
And lastly, proof positive more isn’t always good… it’s just more.
.

.
Hell, I think I’m slipping into diabetic coma just looking at that.
.
.
Epic fails in the kitchen. They usually happen when you’re having your MIL or the boss over for dinner.
So when I saw these online the other day? I had to share…
.

.
Not even close.
.

.
Funny, I’ve made this dish as well… but had no idea it was Italian.
.

.
Recipes.
Sometimes they just like to screw with you.
.

.
Ninja throwing apples!
I like.
.

.
Oh, hell no!
That mouth. I just can’t…
.

.
I’m all for making pets out of rocks, they’re so obedient. But this looks more like a creepy charcoal briquette.
.

.
It’s official.
I will never eat sausage again.
.
.
Today the turkeys beat the deer to the buffet.
.

.
Come on mom, I’m hungry.
.

.
Bambi wanted in.
.

.
But was decidedly out numbered.
.

.
Look at mommas face.
She is not pleased.
.

.
But she gives in and tries to approach.
.

.
Nope.
Even when Bambi runs at them they just scatter and regroup.
.

.
Still hungry…
.

.
Bambi finds an alternative source.
.

.
.
Yeah, yeah… still the husband. Soul mate, best friend, whatever.
.

.
But today I’m talking about critters.
.

.
Whimsical…
.

.
Magical….
.

.
Absolutely adorable….
.

.
Little critters.
.

.
Yes, even the pesky red squirrel.
.

.
And the mice that make their winter nests in our garage.
.

.
The fact that these creatures are ephemeral and disappear with the first gust of wind just makes it bittersweet.
.

.
.
Still with momma…
.

.
But no more spots!
.

.
He/she is a little smaller than the other fawns.
.

.
And I’m not sure if that has something to do with the fact that he/she is blue eyed.
.

.
But they chow down everyday, twice a day.
.

.
And as long as the deep snow doesn’t roll in too soon, all should be well.
.
