A Covid 19 4th of July.

We were invited to a few get togethers last weekend, but passed on all of them. I’m afraid I just don’t trust people well enough to gather in groups yet.

So I took a picture of my new, appropriately patriotic flowering plant….

And we stayed home to mow the lawn instead.

Yard work is an all day event ’round here, but it’s quite satisfying.

The daylilies are popping…. and when we were through mowing and whacking and trimming we fired up the grill.

And had an adult beverage while the husband stared, still enraptured by his new toy and it’s viewing window.

( Latest Seagram’s flavor review: Wild Berries – meh. Won’t be buying that one again.)

After some truly marvelous steaks, husband raked grass clumps…. and while I was cleaning up the kitchen?

I looked out the window….. and took a picture through the screen which looks like a bad acid trip.

( Or so I’ve been told. I have no personal experience. No. Not me. Uh uh. )

But yes.

That cute little bugger was at it again.

Eating one of the flowers he’s not supposed to like to eat.

Someone needs to revise that list.

Momma squirrel has not forgotten.

While relaxing on the barn porch the other afternoon…..

Our peace and quiet was disturbed by one very perturbed rodent.

IMG_4411

Momma squirrel was back and chattering up a storm.

She was scrambling up and down the posts.

IMG_4410

Running back and forth along the eaves.

And most definitely making her presence known.

Her memory is long.

And apparently all has not been forgiven.

You knew it was coming.

The baby woodchucks are everywhere.

Behind the barn, in the rock wall, on the porch, under the deck.

Which means….

IMG_4271

They’re going to be saturating my blog for a while.

IMG_4273

Because really….

IMG_4274

If there’s anything cuter than a mini woodchuck eating apples?

I don’t know if I’d survive it.

IMG_4276

Making friends.

Have I mentioned how much I love the baby woodchucks?

If not, get used to it… because I’ve been spending a lot of time making friends with them.

IMG_4267

I’ve found sliced apples are a great ice breaker.

IMG_4263

And if I’m enjoying a little Crown Royal apple while making woodchuck friends… all the better.

IMG_4259

It took a while for them to get used to me and they were pretty hesitant to come out with me so close.

But the lure of apples proved too much.

Admit it.

That’s pretty damned cute.

What’s all the fuss about?

I heard some Hellacious  (Yes, that’s a word. At least in Maine.) chattering the other afternoon.

Looked out back…

IMG_2085

And saw momma red squirrel perched on the plant hanger.

IMG_2093

She was flicking her tail and screeching like a Hollywood starlet who ran out of Botox.

She screeched so hard a seed fell out of her mouth.

IMG_2079

It only took me a minute to figure out why.

IMG_1978

The other visitor.

No worries readers, momma escaped unharmed.
