Sometimes you find that one perfect card.
The one that’s fine tuned just for you.
I found mine the other day….
And am happy to share it’s holiday sentiments.

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Our last night with our special visitors ended at Jose Tequilas because…. well, you knew it had to.
Greeted at the door by this…..

And this….

I knew it was going to be a fun place.

The colors were bright and cheerful.

And the margarita list was a mile long.
Heaven, I tell you…. pure heaven!

I started with the Prickly Pear and Destiny had the Mango…. we both said large, and yes they were.

The Dia de los Meurtos theme was fabulous… and everywhere you looked.

After a few of those large (and quite potent) margaritas? I wouldn’t be surprised if someone asked those chicas to dance.

I tried to persuade our table to order grilled cactus, but there were no takers.

Though a second round of medium sized margaritas was approved for us girls.
Purple Gecko for me, Cool Cucumber for Destiny.
And yes, Martin… there was food.

Although Mexican food never looks as good as it tastes.
Chicken enchiladas, Spanish rice and re-fried beans….

Quesadillas….

And churros.

A good time was had by all.
There was a third round of margaritas…. the Tamerindo Guava and a Coco Loco respectively…. but yours truly forgot to photograph those.
And to be honest? By that time I was very glad the resort was only 2 minutes away.

While we’d planned on taking the 8:30pm ferry back to Woods Hole…

We arrived early and were put on an earlier freight run.

Yay! Third car on, I figured we’d be the third car off.
I was wrong.
So very wrong…

But it was a gorgeous night for a boat ride.

And for some full moon photography.

Even if some of the shots went a little wonky.

Before we knew it we were pulling into port.

And the doors were opening…
Damn.
Do I take fascinating videos or what?

Naturally, we were almost the last to leave.

But that’s alright, it was a wonderful day and a memorable adventure of a fabulous place.
Next stop?
Beer.

We’d passed this place in Falmouth a few times during our trip and decided that night we’d stop.

Bad Martha’s, a brewery from Edgartown on the Vineyard… from whence we just came, but managed to miss while we were there.

It was a fun space.
Loud and exuberant…. probably like Martha herself.

We did a flight.

And sadly weren’t impressed with the beer, the really uncomfortable metal tractor seats or the small menu. Basically a few pizzas or a cheese plate.
So we moved on to Mashpee and found a great little Italian restaurant.

Cranberry margarita in hand..

We drooled over the menu.

Veal Portofino for me…

(Okay, 2 cranberry margaritas in… I admit the quality of photography tends to decline.)

Chicken Florentine for the husband.

And a classic on the television at the bar.
(I still have my original album, which shouldn’t surprise anyone. Hey Bartender!)

Dessert was a shared Limonatta cream cake. Husband said he didn’t want any and ended up eating 2/3rds of it.
Light as air and positively delicious, how could he not?
One more slightly inebriated photo later…

(It was a nice looking place, you’ll just have to take my word for it.)
Day 4… over and out.
It was a little dreary the day we left, with rain threatening in the distance… but we made good time and actually arrived too early to check into our resort.
What to do. What to do…
Who am I kidding?

It was margarita time.

So we found a chicken themed bar…

And settled in for lunch. Liquid and otherwise…

It was a funky place…

Basically a converted farmhouse with lots of quirky little rooms.

And though they don’t look wonderful….

The homemade chicken croquettes were to die for.
Bellies full, we headed out.

Fall color was intermittent during this trip. Some places gorgeous, others past peak.

We got to Newry, still too early to check in… so we explored.

Found a covered bridge….

Built in 1872…

And enjoyed the views.

It was peaceful…

And smelled like autumn.

For those not familiar…
That means fresh air, apples, a hint of wood smoke, and dry crackling leaves.

Nectar of the Gods.
Down the road a ways, we had a laugh.

We followed the sign, but found neither hole nor Frenchman.

But we did pass a camp….

With the perfect name.

That says it all.

I love the country!

I like….
Finding that just right product at T.J. Maxx.

Pig collagen.
Because have you ever seen a wrinkled pig?

I like…
Taking the guess work out of what to get me for my birthday.

Good clean fun…. yes sirree.
I like…
Hummingbirds who pull up a chair and sit a while.

As this one did the other day on our back deck.

2,000 meals a day and sleep the whole night thru?
I totally want to be a hummingbird now.
I like….

Okay, technically I don’t know if I like it yet because I just bought it.

But a 100 calorie cocktail?

What’s not to like?
And finally, I like….
This sign.

Because who can argue with that?

It’s hot in Maine. Really hot. Surface of the sun hot.
Too hot to drink hot.
Okay… I got carried away there, it’s never too hot to drink. But we’ve been in the low 90’s with high humidity for days and that’s simply too hot for me. I don’t like hot and come from a long line of women who detest sweating.

(Actual portrait of my ancestress)
So on the 4th? We headed to our friend’s camp at the lake for the day.
There were cute young people in hats…

And boating…

And swimming…

And frozen raspberry margarita consumption for those who were doing neither.

There was food, fun and friends.
There was some of this…

And a lot of this…

And even a few fireworks on the opposite shore.

Not a bad way to spend the day.
Or night.
Hope your holiday was equally satisfying.
1. Kicking back on the barn porch on a summer evening after a long day of mowing and trimming the lawn?
Wonderful.

Margarita in a can?
Not so much.

But it’s alcohol.. with a view.
So I like.
2. With a shout out to Mona at Wayward Sparkles who introduced me to this marvelous piece of mechanical engineering)
I read her blog and thought, damn…. I have to have one.
And then I thought, gifts!
So I had to have 2 more.

Are you all here?
Good.
Viola!

A bell you can ring to summon the elixir of the Gods.
In pink no less!
I believe this little darling will be getting quite a work out at Casa River.
If only I could order the hot cabana boy to go with it…
I like.
And finally, ladies…
Do you have old, dry wood?
No, I’m not talking about your husbands.

We have stained wood moulding, doors, window frames and sills, and built in stained bookcases etc. basically every piece of trim is unpainted wood. They’re original to the house and tend to dry out/fade from sunlight and winter heating.
So I found this on Amazon –

Half a bottle did 12 doors and frames, 5 windows and frames and 2 large tables.
It’s good stuff. Witness the before and after…

Brings back the shine and feeds your thirsty wood with very little effort.
I like.

Thank you..
Thank you very much.
I like –
The sign a friend of mine saw while on vacation in Barbados last week.

I don’t like –
That she was in Barbados and I was not.

I like –
Jo Malone’s line of products.

I don’t like –
Her price tags ($35 for a bar of soap? For that price, I want someone to wash me with it. Preferably Bradley Cooper or Johnny Depp) which is why I buy the itty bitty sampler bottles.

$155 on the site, slightly less on Amazon… if you can find them.
No one around here sells Jo Malone and I’m not buying a full bottle until I test it.
But they rock!
Trust me on this…

(See how I snuck a Game of Thrones reference in there?)
I like –
The sound of this drink for summer.

I don’t like –
The idea of walking around with a blue tongue all night.
(Or day, who are we kidding?)

I like –
The tee shirt I found the other day.

I don’t like –
The fact that there are only 4 more episodes of Thrones left.

Sigh.
Dinner with friends a while back was here.

A renovated old Federal House built in 1786.
Getting a reservation is tough as they only do 3 seatings a night, but it’s well worth the wait.
Walking in, I’m always struck by the low ceilings and even lower lamp placement.

I know we were a shorter race of people back in 1786…
But were we that short?

There was a raucous crowd of 95 downstairs, celebrating someone’s 50th birthday. I would dearly have loved to join them, ( some arrived in a hearse!) but our waitress escorted us up the stairs.

To a quiet dining room with dated wallpaper and curtains, where we were given the menu.

It changes weekly, and all meals are 5 course for $36.95.

You’re welcome.
And thank you for the fine Patron margaritas….

Okay, this is getting out of hand.
The food was lovely.

Home baked wheat bread with honey butter.
Scallop stuffed mushroom caps… which I ate too quickly to photograph.

Caesar salad.

Bacon wrapped Filet mignon with sweet fig demi glace, medium rare and tender enough to slice with your spoon.
I was too full for dessert but since it was included, the husband had his white chocolate raspberry cheesecake there… and took mine to go.

We waddled out some time later, only to be blocked in by the hearse.
Seriously… you have to love people who rent hearse transportation for their birthday parties.
I didn’t even know that was possible.

But now I totally want to pick up the girls for a night out sometime soon!
